as for Semin---he willbe taking a pay cut ...they guy does have talent but teams willnot pay big due to his perceived character flaws -still as a complimentary skilled sniper in a top six where few NHL teams go 4 deep as we do--adding a5th elite skill guy makes some sense especially if the price is right...Do not know how much pay cut but he could drop to the $4.75 to 5 million range from his lofty $6.7 cap hit...only produced in the 55 pt range for last 2 seasons straight (albeit only 65 GP the year prior to last --played 77 last year) ...have to hope he's healthy ,plus change of scenery and system (last year in WASH was defense first-not good for a skill guy like him) plus depth of surrounding top six cast --brings out his best offense..
SNIPING should be better than Hossa,Kane and Sharp ---I think he CAN be a good complimentary guy in our top six --this is not going to be some no hands Frolik that cannot convert chances-we will create lots of chances for him to snipe...so the question is how much of a drop in cap hit fter 2 sub-par years and how much term to risk?

I'd be looking at $4 to $4.5 million on a 3-4 year term .I do not think teams will risk longer thanthat or pay more than that..so iF he wants to stay in the NHL then he'll have to accept less..a lot less than before.

BUT this could be a bargain opportunity because he could if motivated give you 35-40 goals and 70 pts in the right system and the right compliment of talent supporting him.

1 year contract at best.

LeBrun thinks LA or PHX IIRC

According to Shane Doan's agent, Terry Bross, the #Blackhawks have shown interest in the veteran free-agent forward.

I guess the question is if the Hawks will be stuck as the second or third choice yet again with Doan....

Time to see if players really do want to come here, since so many of them have been choosing elsewhere lately.

All the same, we keep hearing about Doan wanting to stay in the Western U.S., so who knows.

His wife is from Kamloomps, so the Canucks are unfortunately a possibility

I think that the Nucks will go hard after him. Bowman wants to improve the team, he's shown it more than enough

going hard after Suter, Parise, Broudeur and asking about Luongo & Doan... that's the willingness he's shown. Bowman wants to improve our team, sometimes it just won't go our way

Unfortunately I think Doan will stay in the Western US and will get a 4 year contract.

If Stan negotiated like that we'd never get the player we want and need.

Doan is going to want 2 years minimum, likely 3. At his age, he won't even look at a 1 year deal, guaranteed. I have zero confidence that Stan will get him or a decent goalie though.

This isnt kindergarten, you dont get full marks just for showing up. I dont care if he WANTS to improve the team, I want to see that he DOES, and if our sole acquisition this offseason is effin Brookbank, then Bowman failed and failed hard.

I don't want him for more than 1 year as of now, Stan will offer him 2 years and slightly less than the highest bidder. Problem will be that the highest bidder will have some advantage like being his only team ever or his wife is from that city - something like this. (and possible for 3 years too).

I think it will come down to PHX and VAN. Van will want a Top4 D as return for Luongo. That would really solve many of their problems. I would trade Hjammer+ for Luongo....

what should he have done different? He wanted Parise and CHI was Parises 3rd option. He could have paid Brodeur 10 million for 2 years or 5 million for Jagr. Whitney for 2 years 11 million doesn't sound bad either, does it?

I'd go up to 3 years with Doan, no longer. If you can get him for 2 years, you definitely pull the trigger and sign him.

But then when Bowman signs Doan to a 4-yr/$20+ million contract we'll all say he overpaid for an aging vet...

I m no fan of Bowman's but you can only go so far with your offers to free agents. When you cross that line of sensibility you are not really improving matters.

I totally agree. Bowman should have kidnapped Parise and Suter's families and FORCED them to sign with the Hawks. Then we would all know he WANTS to improve the team. Great point!!!

3 year $16 mil may convince him to move east

It's not like Tallon was great at getting players to come to Chicago, at least, no better than Bowman. The difference is Tallon badly overpaid for the likes of Khabibulan, Huet and Campbell and Bowman hasn't overpaid for anyone.

If throwing 8M at players worth 5M is being a "good" GM, than I'm glad Bowman "sucks".

The Vancouver Canucks are far from the only team that’s interested in signing Shane Doan, but according to his agent, they’re among the favorites to get it done.

Terry Bross told CKWX in Vancouver that Doan, 35, has spoken with Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman about joining the club, and that his client is interested in the opportunity.
Gilman was formerly an executive with the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes, so there’s a relationship there.

And as the Globe and Mail’s James Mirtle notes, Doan’s wife is from Kamloops, British Columbia, and the couple spends time there in the offseason.

Doan is also a co-owner of his former junior team, the Kamloops Blazers (WHL).

That's a lot of reason for him to go to the Canucks. That is not good.

I would love to see him do something to improve this team, but not at the cost of sacrificing the future just to get a deal done. I agree that he hasn't addressed any of the needs of this team here and now.

He only fits if the Canucks give up Luongo in what basically amounts to a salary dump. Right now they are sitting on $3 mil in cap space with a 22 man roster.
