Minny fans don't want to trade Backstrom, they will say no to this.

Wild have no real interest in additional forwards at this point in time unless there's forwards going back the other way. Even then it seems unlikely.

Acquire ALL the forwards!!!

But in all seriousness, no. The plan is to let Backs run out his contract, or possibly trade him at the deadline if Harding is ready for fulltime/we're missing a piece of the puzzle to make the run. Otherwise it'll be Harding/Hackett next season unless Backs agrees to less money for one or two years absolute max.

No from Wild.

Koivu
Granlund
Brodziak
Cullen
Coyle
Phillips
Larsson

The Wild are set at center. Granlund is going to get 60 points this year and all of hfboards is going to start a bunch of "Koivu to ___" on account of the Wild's "sudden" depth at center.

Yeah, Minnesota doesn't need more forwards... Leaving Harding as their starter is pretty risky right now as well.

Want to have a bet that Granlund won't even reach 30?

My money is on the 35-40 range. That being said if he makes the transition decently, doesn't get injured, and plays with Koivu and Parise which is what a lot of people are thinking I think he's got a shot at topping that.

I'd love to make that bet with you.

But the point was we don't need anymore forwards, and especially no centers.

I'm a Leafs fan and I think that's terrible for Minnesota.

They would probably be looking for a package with Gunnarson or Liles if they were to send him to the Leafs. Judging by their offseason moves though its pretty obvious they are looking at the playoffs this year and I doubt they are ready to run with Harding.

Oh, you got me! Zing.Oh man. You're right. Here, take Granlund. Just please send back post-July 1 UFA negotiation rights for Jeff Finger. Now the OP trade looks great for the Wild after you cleared it up for us all.

Granlund might be out of the NHL by December. Or he might be the best rookie in the NHL. Regardless, he's going to start the year as the Wild's 2nd line center next year until he gets outplayed by Cullen, and at no point does the Wild do this trade. Backstrom is too important.

Koivu to Toronto. Thought I would get a head start.

Now in response to the OP like it has been said already Backstrom will be a deadline move if anything happens. Right now he has 1 year left on his contract so I say they plan to let him play it out and give Harding more and more games as time goes on.

That stretch last year where the Wild were first in the NHL he was sharing the games with Backs. If he's hot going in I think he could manage to keep the team in games at least.

Doesn't really seem to be any fit between Toronto and Minnesota.

After investing that much in Parise / Suter, going with Josh Harding as the #1 goaltender doesn't seem to be a great idea. Even if they were prepared to trade Backstrom and shift the salary to another position, they'd be looking for blueliners that the Leafs really don't have expendable at the moment.

You mean when Reimer had Toronto first in the East and Bulin had Edmonton leading their division? I think Harding will be a good starter but at this point I don't see them gambling on him being able to start the whole season. The most likely situation IMO is like Price's first year where he gradually took more and more starts away from Huet until Huet was traded at the deadline.
