Barch came from an early trade with Dallas last season and did fairly well. He isn't a liability out there and did well in fights. It seemed like he got a good scoring chance every now and then. One of his goals were on a breakaway which is rare for tough guys. I actually wanted us to re-sign him but Tallon signed Parros instead. You guys who don't like the signing might be presently surprised with him.
And about the Subban incident, Barch didn't call him the N-word. He just chirped ”Did you slip on a banana peel?” because P.K. went down easy in a scrum with Gudbranson. The ref heard banana and thought something racial. Anyway good luck to him!

Thanks for the breakdown on him. You must have watched us in the series we played you. Do you think he would work good with a line of skilled guys like the 4th line we used in the playoffs? Carter, Bernier, and Gionta? Or do you think he might cause a rift in what they can do?

Thanks man! I'm just hoping he's better than Boulton. Not too much to ask for.

I think he'll totally do fine with those guys. That would be a real strong line. I wanted Dineen to play Barch in the playoffs (at least once) since we didn't have anything going on our bottom lines anyway. Not like Smithson & Sturm couldn't sit for a game or two.

Alright thanks! Oh, and how many minutes a night does he average in ice time? Can he hopefully play for more than 4 minutes so we don't have to double shift Kovy all night?

I think he can. Like I said, he wasn't a liability out there, he can play some hockey. He might of not had the best amount of minutes with us because we had to throw Weiss' line out there a lot to try and keep in games.
Would like to read feedback from Florida or Dallas fans on Barch, as most people here have not really seen him play much.
Boulton was horrific with the Devils, anyone would be an upgrade.
Posted the following on the Trade Board in reply to another post but per the quote above figured it'd be better here. I'm a Stars fan and I tend to like players like Barch, Churla, McRae, etc so that may make my opinion skewed compared to someone who doesn't see a place for that type of player on their fourth line.
"... If Barch is told to forecheck and stick up for his teammates in NJ or go sit in the AHL then he'll be fine. He was great the first year and a half in Dallas because his skating is exceptional for what his assigned role is and he'd hit everything hard and then fight. After that first year and a half I think he got comfortable and thought he could be a third-line PK type of guy and he extended himself to trying to play hockey with the puck and defensively...to be fair, Crawford came in and changed the system and mindset so that may have contributed. Like a lot of guys with a great story of making their way up from the ECHL, he was great trying to get to and stay in the NHL...once he stayed he lost some of the mojo."
If he actually is an above-average skater, he may have a chance to succeed as being the first guy in on the forecheck. You need speed to pressure the defensemen into making a play.
I still don't like this signing cause it could split CBGB up. I don't know why Lou feels we need an enforcer for every game. Cam has a two way though so maybe he goes to the minors? I figured we only had goons in the lineup every night last year cause of depth problems. Which is another reason we had Mills, Sestito, Zalewski, Zharkov, and other assorted guys coming, and going between Albany, and the big clud all year. Once Zajac was back, and Josefson was healthy those last couple weeks of the season we didn't see a goon again until Clarkson took some nights off, and the game after Josefson was injured.
