I'd actually flip him with Pavelski, but put Pavs as 3 C

All of his kids were born there and he lives there during the offseason. I remember hearing that DW moved to Phoneix for a while but his family missed the bay area so they moved back. But being San Jose we will go home 4 times a year and maybe he can shoot over for a few days during the season.

Take that Parise.
Largest jump between years would be no greater than $6m (half of max).

except for the minor detail of doans new contract is an over age contract, so no matter if you sign him to a 20 year contract, at 2 million, that 2 million will stay on your cap hit for the 20 years.

That being said, it's either a Pacific team or Eastern Conference (anyone else think it would be awesome to see him play for the Jets?).
I can. He is tied to Phoenix because of his family and he will want to see them as much as he can while he is playing. Being able to go there three times a year is a huge advantage and something he will consider if the money is competitive.

I'd try to split into 3 potential scoring lines:
Marleau - Thornton - Wingels
Clowe - Couture - Havlat
Galiardi - Pavelski - Doan

Then for PP move Doan into Wingels spot and Pavelski to point.

If family is his #1 concern, he'll make a deal with us. The guy is 35 and has grossed $42 million so far in his career. His wife owns her own photography business which tells me they live a relatively moderate lifestyle for someone who makes that kind of money.

Depends on how long it is. 6 mil for three years isn't that bad for Doan. He is a solid 20 goal scorer in a tight defensive system and a solid playoff performer along with many other contributions he brings. It's a little steep but it's not that bad. He's probably worth 5 million right now and it's possible to bring that 6 million down with a movement clause.

Most of DW's moves come under the radar, so if we're rumored, we're probably not going to get him. The only exceptions I can think of to the under-the-radar moves of DW are Heatley and Stuart. Thoughts?

Also, 4yr/24M or 5yr/30M LOL? No thanks, but for a lower deal, this sounds goooood:

Marleau-Thornton-Doan
Clowe/someone else-Couture-Havlat
XXX-Pavelski-Wingels
Galiardi-Desjardins-Burrish
Sheppard

!!! That sounds great!

$6M for 4-5 years is ridiculous. I'm happy to read that there's mutual interest, though.

$6 mil is way too much. Anything over $5 mil is way too much. With the prices players are going for in this FA I don't know if the Sharks have a legit shot at him.

Would be great to see him on the team though I have always respected the way he plays the game.

I'd go 6/5/4/3, then he gets his 6, and we get a cap friendly 4.5 avg

Very nice. It will be interesting to see if they go with Handzus in the lineup of manage to get rid of him and sign another vet.

Marleau - Thornton - Doan
Clowe - Couture - Havlat
Galiardi - Pavelski - Wingels
Handzus- Desi- Burish
Sheppard

Or

Marleau - Thornton - Doan
Clowe - Couture - Havlat
Vet? - Pavelski - Wingels
Galiardi - Desi- Burish
Sheppard

If we can get rid of Handzus I'd think they could find a better scoring threat to put with Pavs and Wingels. There will probably be a few good ones available cheep closer to the start of the season and it would give us more capspace for callups. Langenbrunner or Mueller would be nice.

Don't do it DW. Doan isn't going to help this team.

If DW does sign him, don't do anything more than $4mil and no more than 2 years. He will be 36 at start of season. Not worth it.

She defiantly would not make more. I know quite a few people who do photography for weddings and on a very busy year with high profile clients, and they top out at ~$350k gross/year and the last time they ever made any money close to that was pre 9/11.

we need speed. doan isn't speedy. that said he's the best ufa out there so would be a huge huge pickup.

also it's possible, as dw does like signing over the hill ufas (blake, wallin).

We could always trade Boyle or Clowe for cheaper/younger talent as well. Thoughts?

As someone who has shot weddings, I seriously doubt she makes a fraction of what she makes (even if she is a wedding photographer). Also, only the top end wedding photographers are going to be pulling in five figures per wedding, meaning very, very few photographers are pulling in anywhere near $400K/year.
