Ah yes, that's fine then. We are in a better position to trade two forwards (which I still maintain would be a huge mistake) now than we were before the trade, for sure. Less of a worry about whether or not we really have a kid ready for the spot.

Theres your bottom six's production last year.
That's not to bad if you can get 5 more goals out of AA, 5 more goals out of BB & Dubi rebound to 20-22 goals.

It doesn't set them up for a move, either.

They have 13 forwards now.

Haley is an AHL player.

If they ship out two forwards, there's more holes to fill. And adding a 7.8 cap hit, not an awful lot of cap space to fill those holes.

Realistically, Anisimov/Boyle/Asham/Pyatt/Halpern/Rupp/Haley are more than likely to be the bottom six at this point, in some form of line configuration. If we can get 50-60 goals out of them, that will be productive.

Wow, terrific move. Huge fan of the signing. At this point in his career, like a great Blair Betts type player.

He's a great option as 4th line center.

I was upset they didn't keep Feds, but glad to see they replaced him with another veteran player that is similarly highly intelligent in his play.

depends on who goes back the other way...if we send dubi and aa to clb then it only adds $1.75 mil

I'd add also that I don't care to see Boyle as a third line center, or Nash's contract on the team's budget, but if they are going to make that type of move (and, sadly, it seems they will as expected), Halpern is a great option as a 4th line center.

But who fills those spots, is the issue.

Thats two big losses.

Granted you replace Dubinsky with Nash, who is an upgrade.

But who takes Anisimov's spot? Miller (i hope he's ready).

It'd be sweet if they somehow managed to trade only Dubinsky and keep Artie. Boyle would be much better as a wing. Halpern on the 4th line.

I've been a fan of Halpern forever. He's a good player for the fourth line. Good terms as well.

Yeah, realistically it's not a $1.75m increase. It's $1.75m+whoever you replace Anisimov with. If it's Miller, that's another $1.275m.

I can't believe we finally got this guy on our team! He's old, but he still plays a heck of a game for his age.

Didn't have to go past the first page. I agree.

On a personal note, I have always been a hugr Halpern fan. My family has had tickets to Princeton hockey since the early 90s and Halpern was the best player theyve had since. Super nice guy too.

Solid as an extra forward, defensively responsible and Good on faceoffs.

Congratulations to Jeff Halpern on his signing with the @thenyrangers. An excellent signing. Imagine Mike Sullivan had some input.

Lawton was the TB Lightning GM when Halpern and Sullivan were there in 2008-09.

If you look at the numbers, the Rangers are fine adding the Nash cap hit and moving Dubinsky/AA in the deal. The Rangers are adding $1,725,000 in cap space. I was looking at the numbers earlier today.

FORWARDS
Rick Nash ($7.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.667m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Chris Kreider ($1.325m) / Derek Stepan ($0.875m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
Carl Hagelin ($0.875m) / Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Taylor Pyatt ($1.550m)
Mike Rupp ($1.500m) / Jeff Halpern ($0.700m) / Arron Asham ($1.000m)
DEFENSEMEN
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Dan Girardi ($3.325m)
Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) / Michael Del Zotto ($2.750m)
Tim Erixon ($1.750m) / Anton Stralman ($1.300m)
Stu Bickel ($0.750m)
Michael Sauer ($1.250m)
GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)
Martin Biron ($1.300m)
BUYOUTS
Chris Drury ($1.667m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,008,334; BONUSES: $2,100,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $4,391,666

The issue is 2013-14 when McDonagh,Stepan and Hagelin are group II's. The last season of Gaborik's $7.5M will have to be moved. Say they keep the upper limit at $64.3M for the first two years of the CBA like the NBA did, there is money to pay for the increases to those 3 players but they can't do anything else.

Halpern is a right handed shot who can win a face-off.

Maybe so, but most of us agree Nash will improve our team. It's the cap hit and the term that concern myself and others.

They swapped out Prust,Fedotenko and Mitchell for Pyatt,Asham and Halpern.

$5.35M vs. $3.25M. They saved $2.1M.

Thats only 12 forwards. The third and fourth lines are brutal.

Erixon still boyishly weak in his upper body?

Can't have both Rupp and Asham in the lineup at the same time.

Miller would have to be on this roster, push Pyatt or Boyle to the fourth line.

And they still need another defenseman, because they can't have Erixon being rag dolled.

Not only did we save $2.1M, but:

Halpern > Mitchell

Asham = Prust

Pyatt > Fedotenko

Our bottom six slightly improved, especially with Halpern's face-off abilities.
