Not sure if serious. Taking 3.1 faceoffs per game does not a specialist make. The respective number for others: Anisimov 4.4, Dubinsky 5.1, Stepan 10.6, Boyle 14.8, and Richards 16.

Also, is this the Rangers first ever Jewish player?

Like most have said: Good depth signing.

Bottom six has rounded out nicely.

Now about that top six..

Yeah, and he is also a traditional centericemen who can handle the puck and make a pass. Looking at NYR's depth its quite biased towards players like Asham, Rupp, Boyle and co who will just dump the puck in and go after it like robots.

I definitely think he makes some sense over the course of a full season and a PO's. He might not even play all the time, but the clock will tick when he is on the ice so to speak.

Fine with this as a cheap depth move. He will be either;
4th line C/ faceoffman/Pker
13th F which pushes down Haley and Wellman to the minors

Adds depth but even more now I expect a 2 for 1 deal for a LW. Our buddy likley still gets 3rd line minutes at C.

its pretty simple as they needed a faceoff 4th line C, its cheap, at worst its a vet spare in the locker room. No risk on a 1 yr deal.

Now CT can start with:
Haley, Newbury, Wellman
Yogan, Miller, Thomas
Bourque,etc....................all potential call ups

Time on ice numbers:
Richards - 1,661:45
Stepan - 1,553:32
Dubinsky - 1,253:01
Boyle - 1,249:35
Anisimov - 1,216:43
Mitchell - 640:16

Not directed at the poster quoted. Mitchell certainly isn't a faceoff specialist, but he was definitely primarily used as a center.

Halpern was a good 3rd line center for the Bolts, but trading him to the Kings for a prospect (Purcell) and a 3rd (which tuned into Brock Beukeboom, into Eric Brewer) turned out to be a great deal. 1st line winger and top 4 D for 2 months of Jeff.

Liked Halpern on the Bolts. Hopefully he can contribute on the PK and stay in the lineup.

As a Kings fan, I never could understand the hype. Dude flat out sucks. And is glacially slow. Colin Fraser is 10x better, and he is barely a legit 4th liner.

Good faceoff guy and foot soldier.

Hate the Rangers but will be rooting for Halpern in NY. Glad to see him go to a big hockey market and solid organization. Caps fans are still scratching our heads and trying to figure out why he got benched for Aucoin in the playoffs. He deserved better.
