Dallas would probably prefer top four defensive help but I'm not sure Morrow alone or Morrow+Fistric gets that done. I do think with moving Ribs for a prospect and pick, if the right prospect is dangled they'd take that too. If a salary dump has to come back to make a deal for a better prospect I don't think they'd be frightened away by that either.

As for a sweeteners, Dallas has too many goaltenders and a guy like Beskoworany could be added to a deal to help out Philly or any club lacking a viable AHL option.

I asked the STL forum about Polak several days ago because I thought Morrow was a good fit for their team. They didn't seem to be on board with that.

I don't blame them. He's on a great contract, but he'd fit a big need in Dallas ... right shot, big defender to play with Alex Goligoski.

Update from Andy Strickland:

Quote:
Andy Strickland ‏@andystrickland

Dallas #Stars have yet to ask Brenden Morrow to waive his no-trade. Told he's corrected his back/neck issues which bothered him last season
If the last part is true, I don't want to trade him unless it's very immediate help on D. His value at the trade deadline would be very good if he's healthy .... probably a 1st and a prospect.

Morrow would be a good fit, but not at the cost of Roman Polak.

I'd love to have but dealing for a teams captain can be tricky. We have some decent defensive prospects that I might offer (Edmonson?)

@MikeHeika I'm hearing no trade talks for Brenden Morrow to St louis. Nothing really cooking at all right now. #Stars #STLBlues

I wouldn't mind acquiring Morrow, but it has to be at the right price. He's really just a nice piece to add, but doesn't really fill any holes, so I'd be reluctant to move anything that would satisfy Stars fans I'm sure. A top 4 defender is just not in the cards from the Blues I don't think. Matt D'Agostini and Ottawa's second rounder this year could be had. Possibly Ian Cole if a trade for Bouwmeester goes down. As the team stands right now, I just don't think a top 4 dman can be taken from the Blues for what is a luxury really.

Polak is one of the Blues more underrated defenseman. And Sobotka is a favorite of Hitchcock's. I'd say no deal.

Not really sure what the price for Morrow would be. It's an odd situation. Jeremy Rutherford reporting it this specifically (and posting a piece at 10am when he already wrote a piece for the paper on the prospects) is pretty unusual. He's not a rumor monger, he really only goes to press with something solid from a real insider.

At the same time, Mike Heika is the Stars beat writer and there's no reason to think he's uninformed when he says no activity going on. Just odd.

As for pricetag, that is also hard to judge. I could see being surprised in either direction (wow, that was all it took? or wow, that was expensive!). But I don't see the Blues trading any defenseman besides Cole (Woyrika's available, haha) and like another poster said, that's the kind of thing that would set the Blues up to have less leverage in a trade for a defenseman that they'd need to make. Most likely it would be a forward/prospect/futures involved. And that means we don't really know what Dallas specifically covets. Obviously Tarasenko and Schwartz are off the table but I could see any other prospect being involved.

I can totally understand why teams might be gun shy about giving up a lot for Morrow, but at the same time, offers like "D'Agostini and a 2nd, Eaves and a 3rd or Caron and a 2nd" are pointless. If that's the going rate I'd just keep Morrow.

Not against acquiring Morrow, but I'd have a hard time even giving up 1 of those guys for him. Polak is our rock on the Blue line, and vladdy is my favorite player.

Is Morrow's value really going to be all that different from Ribeiro's?

As a Blues fan I hope it isn't true. We have a lot of younger better wing currently. I am not sold on Morrow being better then last season.

Ribiero is much better than Morrow.

And Morrow will be shipped out of the WC, so I'm not concerned with the Stars getting too good a return.

Exactly, which is why I don't understand some of the high expectations some people have for what Morrow will get.

you want a top 4 dman for a bottom six forward?

If healthy, Morrow will put up 20+ goals and 20+ assists, he is the captain of the team. He's probably still worth more to Dallas than most other teams.

If he does have another season like last (injured and undisciplined penalties), his worth is very little. But that is a gamble either the Stars or any team that may acquire him will take. Don't think for a second though he is going to get traded for his value of last year. It would be much more wise to trade him at the deadline.

Most of the people posting crazy proposals aren't Stars fans. Most of us just want him gone.

That's why I didn't single the Stars fans out. Should be interesting to see how this develops and how he performs next season.

Not straight-up, obviously.

And his "bottom-six" tag is uncalled for considering it was just the one season he played horrendously due to injuries. We don't see a fit for him going forth and he won't be extended next off-season barring extenuating circumstances, but I don't think he's as bad as you make him out to be- that is, assuming he has recovered from his injuries.

I would offer D'Ags, a mid round pick and a defensive prospect not named Cole
