What's the difference between the ATD and MLD? I thought the MLD just had more obscure players not selected in the ATD, and this was done after the MLD.. but now the MLD is used to ring up interest for the ATD?

The criteria to take part in the ATD is that you have to have been involved in a minor league draft I think.
If ATD=NHL then MLD=AHL. Its the 801-1201 best players and coaches.

Yes, the MLD is just the "next draft" for players not good enough to be selected in the ATD. It actually started as a way of finding players who deserved to be drafted in the main draft but were missed, but has since taken off as a draft of its own.
It's much smaller and more relaxed than the main ATD, so it's a great place for new people to start.
If we're allowed to pick an historical team name, I propose: RaleighIceCaps
Welcome, and historical names are encouraged. The IceCaps were the ECHL hockey option for fans in Raleigh before the Hurricanes came to town. Nice pick. I just googled and learned that because of your name selection.

I remember being a young fan of the Charlotte Checkers at the time, and the IceCaps would come to town with Lyle Wildgoose as their top scorer and Spencer Meany as their PIM leader.
Seriously, names like those are part of what makes hockey irresistible as a kid.
IDEA: Deadline to join Thursday, draft order randomly determined by Friday noon eastern. The draft could begin anytime thereafter, with the clock officially beginning Monday at noon eastern.
Is there a spreadsheet with the available players somewhere? The link in the OP just seems to go the ATD selections. I mean, I assume anyone not picked in that is fair game, but it would be easier to have a list to start with.

ATD 2011, MLD 2011 and AAA2011 are all excellent resources. Last year we drafted 2000 players between the ATD, MLD, AAA, AA, and A drafts. Use them as a resource. There are even bio threads for the ATD 2011, MLD 2011 and AAA 2011 for research info.
Links can be provided when I or someone else takes the time to provide them (I'll get around to it before the draft begins, if no one else has time to). In the meantime, surf through a few pages of this sub-board and find them yourself.

Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
If you're about to pick a guy not on these lists, you had better have a GREAT case for him. I'm not saying we can't be wrong, but we all went 2000 picks deep, looking for the next best player to outdo our opponents. Did we leave guys out by pick 2000? Sure we did. Did we leave out guys by pick 2000 who deserved to be in the top-1200? I highly doubt it.

I bet there is a few international players but maybe not as high as MLD. Internationals (specially outside of Soviet) seems to get a bit underrated at times.

Actually, Rednal Sinav is one who could stand to make a huge jump. I wonder if anyone will take a flyer on him in this MLD.
If possible, I'd like to throw my name into this. I've always been fascinated by it, but wasn't sure I wouldn't be too overwhelmed. So, if there's room for another, I'd like to put a team in...

Since there doesn't seem to be one, I'm making a spreadsheet for my own use that will be sort of a roster. Will post on google docs when done.
It lists all NHL coaches, and all players with 5 or more years of NHL experience (This seemed to be the best tradeoff - most of you should know the good young players from the last few years, and weeds out a lot of fringe players). I'm also highlighting all the guys selected in the ATD already.
