If we OS, I would expect it to go until Weber turns 40 so that the team can get around the cap

We would lose four first round picks, no thanks.

He has not been mentioned publicly like Matt Fraser and Brenden Dillon by GMJN. However, according to one of the guys from Defending Big D, some members of the organization at the development camp said they think he could take a spot as soon as right out of training camp.

This isn't the year you'll see a bunch of Dallas prospects on the big club though. Without some trades to clear out players on a one-way contracts, you've got room for possibly two young players. Cody Eakin seems to have one of those spots locked up, but he better be prepared to hold back a bunch of prospects in camp. GMJN has been bringing up Matt Fraser so much you'd think he's the leader for the 2nd spot at this point.

This will also be Glennie's first non-injured camp (unless he participated right after being drafted, don't remember).

He's never had a healthy camp and let's not count this chicken until it hatches either.

He's never had a healthy training camp, but he's made it through this one just fine before ... that's far from an accomplishment though (virtually no contact, limited competitive drills).

I think he's been injured twice at Traverse City. Maybe losing that tournament will be a blessing in disguise for him. Although, I was really, really looking forward to this years group, especially after the draft.

That team would have had no excuse. They should have just dominated the other teams.

It might not be something that can be fixed by surgery.

Do any of you guys believe Philip Larsen can turn into a solid top pairing defenseman?

Yes.

He's probably our best bet at a #1 too (but I'm not expecting that).

Lol the edit says forgot Nemeth and I still don't see him.

Oleksiak - Sinitsyn (Call me crazy but I think he's an absolute steal even though its super early)
Nemeth - Larsen
Daley - Goligoski
Dillon - Klingberg

Don't see us with a legit #1, but a full set of top 4 defensemen.

Nemeth - A poor man's Hatcher/Pronger.
Sinitsyn - 40+ points a year with insane offensive talent, but little on the defensive end.
Oleksiak - JBo but with lesser offense.
Larsen - Solid two-way defender, good for 30 points a year and can play in any situation.
Daley - Same as now.
Goligoski - ~40 points, maybe closer to 30 a year. Bad contract for that but I'm hoping he surges back.

Im really high on Klingberg and hopefully he can become a good PPQB atleast even if his d is average.

Im also high on Vance who i think can be a poor mans Braydon Coburn.

I wonder if Faksa can qb the powerplay?

Can he kill penalties? Can he play on the PP?

Until he does something on special teams the Larsen train needs to slow down a little bit. He wasn't given the chance by the coaches blah blah blah, but the Stars were dreadful on the PP and Larsen didn't turn that around. They were average on the kill and traded their best PKer, and Larsen didn't get those minutes either. He will get his shot this year, and I expect he will show something on both special teams units, but before he does I think top pairing is too much to expect.

The type of player you're describing is a #1 defenseman, not necessarily a top pairing D-man. Hatcher was a top pairing defenseman but wasn't a big PP contributor.

This point is that, right now, Larsen doesn't contribute to either special teams unit.

People are projecting though. Considering he played solid defense at his age considering his size and supposedly expected to be more offensive, that's where high expectations are coming from. With his skill set there's a good chance the offense/PP ability comes. He's VERY young for an NHL DEFENSEMAN. Generally they don't it their stride at that position until the mid 20's. So he either gets quite a bit better or he's a rare bird who got it together quickly.

The Stars lack a history of developing high end defensemen. The last group of home grown defensemen had some high expectations but never quite reached them. Grossman and Daley are 2nd pairing guys, but Niskanen and Fistric are 3rd pairing at best. I think Larsen tops out as an elite 2nd pairing guy.

Did he kill penalties? I would be surprised to find that the 2nd best defenseman on any NHL team does not contribute on special teams at all.

I understand the skepticism... Niskanen's failure is going to hang over Larsen until he shows he can build on his rookie season.

Ralph ... paraphrased .... Fiddler got beat up on the 3rd line and belongs on the 4th line.

I hope since he's saying that's how the organization feels.

I was interrupted at work during probably the better part of the interview, but I did catch he thinks the team needs to add another D.
