So if we were to make an honest attempt at getting this thread back on topic, what would our topic be...

I guess the Blues signed Langenbrunner and traded Crombeen to TB for a '13 and '14 4th rounder.

Is Morrow still rumored to be available?

Mason Raymond resigned in Vancouver. There was someone I thought would have been a good fit with the Rangers.

Some say yes, others say nay. I'd guess he's being shopped for the right deal.

Personally, if we could fit him on the cap and he passed a physical, I'd be mildly interested. He could be a solid fit with Richie and Gaborik.

Considering what Dallas got for Ribeiro at the draft, I would think Morrow would not be overly expensive. I would be interested for sure.

@andystrickland: Agent for Shane Doan is doing a good job of drumming up interest for his client...it's going to take 3 or 4 yrs to sign him

@NHL: #DallasStars GM admits he's been active in trade talks, is captain Brenden Morrow a trade candidate? Story: http://t.co/BvUTKkSx

Or with Stepan and Callahan.

Or with Dubinsky and Anisimov.

Which is exactly why you acquire him. He'd fit in just about anywhere in our lineup that he happens to work.

4 years is just too long. That 35+ rule is absolutely killer. If he gets hurts after two years and retires then you're stuck shouldering the cap hit. If all the GMs in the league were smart, they'd collude and refuse to go that long.

I fully expect him to be signed to a 5 year deal.

I brought up Morrow about a month ago and most seemed very pessimistic about him. But I think considering how tough the offseason has been so far maybe people will be more open to him coming aboard for a year?

It's just really hard to look beyond those injuries while absorbing $4.1M for the next season. There's a good chance he'll play fewer than 60 games next year.

People have different ideas of who would fit perfectly" with this team. I look for what we lack, rather than what we have oodles of already.

Yeah he played most of last season injured and just really did not look comfortable on the ice. I think if he's healthy he is still a 20 goal scorer.

I agree. Yeah our identity is a hard working grind it out defense first team. But we need to compliment that with creativity and offensive punch.

Wouldn't mind Morrow here for a season. He had his best years with Richards as his pivot. Couldn't hurt to try it out for just one year.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, here is my honest attempt:

Dubinsky
Callahan
Anisimov
Krieder
Gaborik
Hagelin
Richards
Stepan

All players that are going to be close, at, or over 20 goals.

Boyle
Pyatt

Two players that can be reasonably counted on to score 8 - 12 goals.

From my point of view that is balanced scoring.

My question: Why do we need to off load roster players that got us an ECF, give up solid prospects, give up 1st or second round picks for a player like Nash?

Is he really what puts us over the top....or are we better off with out him?

Being somewhat generous there and it's 199 goals... Well off this years production, and I don't see many from Rupp/Asham/Halpern.

No it's not about a name. I honestly don't think this team will reach the ECF again just because we got there this year. That's silly. You always look to improve and offense was our biggest issue in the PO's we couldn't finish teams off. Heaven forbid we actually played a team like the Pens, Flyers, or Bruins. We faced some of the weaker competition in the first two rounds.

Finally the Rangers are doing it the right way and building through the draft, making it to the ECF last season. Still people want to go get the most expensive option on the market. When they overpaid for players they get *****ed at by this fanbase, when they do not go after and overpay players they get *****ed at by this fanbase.

The idea is to give yourself the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup. Getting to the ECF was super-duper, but why does that mean you don't look to add to the roster?

And to me, scoring depth is a reason you do trade 2 roster players for one better one.

The Caps were not weak competition. They knocked off the defending cup champs. We would've wiped the floor with the Flyers like we did all season long. They have no defense or goaltending.

You forgot defensive goals as well, to be fair.

They can also score more than 3 goals a game, something the Rangers can hardly muster let alone the four goals required to win when the opponents score three. The Caps beat Boston big deal, the defending champs rarely repeat or play up to expectations the following year. They weren't nearly as dominant this year. The Caps had a rookie goalie playing out of his mind.
