Offensive expectations?

Obviously the blues did well last season, mainly attributed to the team defense. Now I know that 3 major offensive players were out with concussions, and when they returned the offense saw a significant boost, but with everyone getting a full, healthy summer, along with an addition or two, and everyone also getting more experience, how do you honestly think the team will perform?

Pardon my android typed run on sentences.

If they are healthy, I think it is a top 10 offensive team. I think Berglund and Stewart will both be better, Perron will be stronger, and Tarasenko will add a little something as well.

Barring an onslaught of injuries to top players, I'd say about a total of 250 goals is reasonable. Powerplay should be better with Mac and Perron all season. Bergie should produce a little more with the wingers he's going to have, and hopefully Stewart can get to 20-20. Wild card is Tarasenko. He could struggle a little bit and only put up 20-30 points, or could adapt right away and hit 45-50. Right in the middle seems most likely.

Lots of it has to do with the PP and with Pietrangelo driving the offense the way he did the second half of the season. The second half he was a nearly PPG defenseman. It's possible he's the team's leading scorer. Perron and McDonald if they're healthy all year should challenge for the team lead. A healthy McDonald means an extra goal every ten PP chances. If Petro puts up ~65-70pts holy crap is he gonna get paid.

I'll just throw out some guesses for individual numbers and lets see if people think I'm nuts. Play a little over/under and tell me what you think.

Backes: 27 goals, 57 points

Oshie: 21 goals, 55 points

Perron: 32 goals, 65 points

McDonald: 30 goals, 62 points*

Berglund: 22 goals, 46 points

Stewart: 17 goals, 40 points

Tarasenko: 21 goals, 45 points

Steen: 18 goals, 39 points

D'Agostini: 15 goals, 29 points

Pietrangelo: 15 goals, 55 points

Shattenkirk: 10 goals, 49 points

*assuming health obviously

Just some guesses for the projected top 9 forwards and the two offensive defensemen. Am I too high, too low?

Not a bad list. I would say Shatty will be a little bit lower, and Steen will be a little higher. D'Ags is about right if he plays the entire season in the top 9, but I expect Schwartz to bump him down at some point.

Hell I will give it shot, the totals are only if players stay healthy all year. I am going to guess Dags/Schwartz totals as if they are in the top 9 obviously they would be lower based on playing time or 4th line duty.

OFFENSE
Perron: 35-32-67
Backes: 30-32-62
Oshie: 24-39-63
McDonald: 29-43-72
Berglund: 22-31-53
Tarasenko: 24-28-52
Schwartz: 17-32-49
Steen: 25-27-52
Stewart: 24-29-53
D'Agostini: 18-20-38
Sobotka: 6-15-21
Nichol: 3-6-9
Reaves: 2-5-7
Crombeen: 4-9-13

DEFENSE
Pietrangelo: 16-43-59
Shattenkirk: 10-34-43
Cole: 5-22-27
Jackman: 1-11-12
Russell: 5-17-22
Polak: 1-12-13

Yes I realize some of the number are high but I am ever optimistic

This is almost insultingly realistic, ha. Very good predictions, IMO.

I looked at Steen's numbers. He hasnt played 80 games in a season in 5 or 6 years.

Little worrisome

The season he was traded to us he played 81, I think you split that season up on accident.

Stewart is going to have a breakout season and lead the team in goals.

Not a bad guess, but I'd take 4-5 goals from McDonald and give them to Oshie, Steen, Berglund and Tarasenko and add a few extra to each of them. Maybe D'Agostini will get less due to Schwartz replacing him, later.

Army hasn't played any of his cards yet.
Let's see what the team will actually look like before going too crazy. There will be at least 2 more moves made to the team before September rolls around.

I think the Blues might flirt with 230 goals for if everything goes right.

My only prediction is that Berglund will lead the team in goals.

The offense will be a good bit better than last season; our team is a year older, all our players are getting a proper summer to prepare and health! Last season we had 206 goals, and the 4 guys who will likely be our most dynamic offensive threats for next season (McDonald, Perron, Tarasenko & Schwartz) played a total of 89 games.

I think we'll be around 240 next season. I won't break it down by player, otherwise I'll end up giving an overly optimistic list! I'll say that McDonald will lead the team in points and that we will have 3 30 goals scorers though.

Lots of question marks...but I'll say:

Perron- 34 goals, 65 points

Pietrangelo- 15 goals, 60 points

Tarasenko- 21 goals, 48 points

Side note: I would think if we took a step back a couple seasons, we might all predict Oshie to have a 30 goal break out by now. Seems as though he really has stayed exactly what he was his rookie year (with more maturity on/off the ice I'd think). I mean that in a positive way though. His game has stayed so consistently the same every year, regardless of shortened season or age. ...almost like a Mike fisher type player (a fan favorite, great vibes, can always count on to produce near that 50 point pace).

I`m pretty bad at predicting but I like your prediction...just a bit too high IMO

last year we had just 9 players with 10 goals or more, just 2 hit the twenties and Backes`24 topped our list so its hard to imagine to have 2 30 goal-scorers on our "trap"-team but with Perry and AMac healthy it could at least be possible

I think we'll move into the middle third of the league this year, but that's about it. We don't exactly play a system that is conducive to a top-10 offense.

I half agree with what you are saying, but considering we scored 206 last season and 227 was the 10th ranked team, it isn't out of the question.

Even more so when you see that Nashville finished 8th in goals.

Here's my predictions for the top 6 scorers:

1) Perron: 34-38-72

2) McDonald: 32-30-62

3) Backes: 29-31-60

4) Oshie: 21-37-58

5) Pietrangelo: 14-42-56

6) Tarasenko: 25-27-52

I like your analysis on the upcoming season ( unless there is a lockout when the CBA expires in September ) kimzet59. I'm hoping for good health from our core players first and foremost. I'll predict the Blues will hover around the top 10 in scoring but that is asking alot for a defensive team in Hitchcock's system IMO.
