i'd be ok with it aswell, as long as the cap hit isn't outrageous.
i just dont want another big contract getting in the way of us resigning letang in 2 years.

Couldn't care less what happens to Lovejoy. Shero has said he's willing to carry 8 Dmen. If that's true, I can see him playing Despres, and rotating Strait and Bort in Engelland's spot, or dressing 7D until there's an injury or something.

That's not really an issue. There's a bunch of contracts coming off the books at that time (Orpik & Kunitz), plus TK and Cooke who are off next summer.

ya i know, and i doubt Semin would make that much(over 7), plus the cap will go up til then, so your right its doubtful that would be an issue

I am still on the fence about Semin signing here. I REALLY ****ing hate his attitude problems, and his work-ethic problems, but man his talent level is just about beyond comparison.

I just pray if he is signed, it doesn't **** this team up internally.

And the replacement players' salaries for those above will have to be...? I guess the Pens will use ELC guys to replace Orpik, maybe Martin, and a winger (Bennett)...But that's still 2 open spots plus the raises.

I guess I just don't know how filling the entire roster will work exactly and never see people talking about that part

Good news: Bylsma has finally nailed the proper pronunciation of "Simon Despres"

Bad News: Bylsma spent a good 90 seconds singing the praises of Pascal Dupuis, Top-6 Winger.

I'm not saying that we should sign both Doan and Semin to big money long term deals. I didn't want both Parise and Suter for that reason. But I don't see the harm in signing Semin to a longer deal (4-5 years @6m - although I doubt Semin would sign it) or Doan to 3-4 years. And before we have to worry about Kunitz/Orpik's replacements (at least we have the D in the system for Orpiks), we have other contracts such as TK and Cooke and Dupuis who easily make up Letang's raise. Their replacements do not need to be 1.9m players. Hopefully Shero gets Letangs and Geno's deals done asap like Crosby's so that he knows what he has to deal with going forward.

I have a feeling people are going to be surprised at how little Semin goes for if he actually signs in the NHL. The guy's stock is really low league-wide.

He's more of a flier guy than a building block at this point. Doubt he gets much term at all.

It's also not uncommon in the south to name boys Ashley ... and while it used to be pretty much exclusively a boys name, these days it's more commonly a girls name. Makes it weird when you're expecting a XX and get XY instead Androgynous names kinda bug me ... Pat, Jordan, Skyler, Morgan, Ashley, Dakota ... I don't have to deal with it so much now, but when my son was a kid it seemed that half of his classmates had names like that

I'm hearing that things are really heating up on the Alexander Semin front and Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago and New Jersey have gotten down to brass tacks with serious offers for the controversial Capitals free agent.

Dupuis is almost 100% to be a top 6 winger for us next season imo. Still leaves 1 spot to fill though. Will be happy when Nash is finally traded to us.

People tend to forget that Dupuis is in like the top ten for even strength goals over the past 3 years or something... i have no problem having him as the third wheel in the top six looking at other teams in the league there are some that don't have wingers in the top six scoring at even strength like pascal.

I think the hold-up for Semin is that everyone is lowballing him. People on this board have put him on rosters with a $5m hit along with Doan for a year or something without even thinking. Thats not happening, he's not taking a paycut for another one year contract. If he gets one year its gonna be at least the same hit as his contract with the caps if not more. The only way I can see the hit coming down is if the term is in excess of 4 years.

I hope we sign Semin to a 3 year deal and go after Inginla instead of Doan at the deadline.
Semin Crosby Inginla
Kunitz Malikin Neal
Cooke Sutter Dupis
Pretty sick for the playoffs

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a team that doesn't have a winger better than Dupuis. Every team has someone who's better than him. The good teams have 2-4 wingers who I'd rather have.
