I'm with you 100% on the logic, but for the Sharks first ever elite (or close enough) UFA in their prime with no previous Sharks connection signed here to be a Russian signed by Doug Wilson is a pipe dream, no?

Not being able to (or wanting to) sign Semin at $6.5M does not mean we need to sign Doan at $5M per, agreed, but if the Sharks can add useful speed elsewhere (i.e., not another Taco Torrey clone), IMHO Doan would be okay (if not good) at the right price.

Anyone who thinks DW is going to offer Doan 4 years is utterly delusional and should be on medication.

DW offering Doan 2yrs at 6M, 5M; cap hit 5.5M.

We've been burned before by not offering term. Term is what will get us Doan.

Well, DW might get fired soon if the Sharks crap out again so Doan might not be his problem. I think he's getting desperate at this point.

This is the argument to which I object. We saw last year what happened when they lost Havlat's speed and tried to do without speed in Handzus. The Sharks are already behind the eightball, they are slow. They are a Heinz 57 team, they are already playing ketchup. Going 1 and 1 is not a way to solving the problem.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to land Doan on the top line; I just don't see DW going for a 3 or 4 year deal. I think DW would be concerned with Doan's style of play in combination of an aging body.

Oh absolutely. NYR are going to land someone else (since they attract FA's better) and Howsen is going to be left crawling back to Wilson as his only option. That's my prediction.

I'm still totally convinced Nash is in teal next year, I will be shocked if it doesn't turn out that way.

The one thing I like about Doan is that we don't have to give up anything for him. I'm too emotionally invested in our team. I want to see them win it all without having to trade away current roster players.

We might as well let our core have another 2 whacks at it. As long as we fix the penalty kill the team will play faster as a whole.

the nucks are apparently very interested. with doan's wife being from bc, i think he'll likely end up in van unless some other team heinously overpays.

If Doan goes to Vancouver, I hope they clear the space by trading Hansen or Higgins to us for a pick.

No doubt a team will.

I hope not this one.

Wait, isn't Doan's family in Phoenix? I'd imagine that's why he wants to stay in Phoenix or move somewhere that is close to Phoenix (a la Steve Nash)

Isn't Demers fluent as well? Torrey Mitchell was also.

Doan's family will stay in Phoenix. His agent may be drumming up interest around the league but I'm pretty sure it's down to two teams and that would be the Kings and the Sharks. I can't see him going any further away and toss away an extra chance to visit his family during the season.

Maybe having Dustin Brown on their team will make Doan lean towards San Jose.

Immediate, yes. But he is from Western Canada and his wife is from BC so I assume her family is still there.
