Yikes. A guy who isn't playing, a prospect and a second rounder for an overpaid, yet minutelogging defensive defenseman.
Unless that prospects name is Seguin or Dougie, not interested.

Tangs, Iggy, Glencross, Cervenka, Hudler, Stempniak, Comeau Jones, and probably Cammy won't be going any where. So that leaves Stajan and Backlund from our forward corps and Bouwmeester and Babchuk from our defense. Something have to be in the works.

Probably just a rumor, but on the mainboard there's a thread that suggests the Flames are interested in Thomas. Highly unlikely but nonetheless interesting. Imagine if we traded for Thomas, then moved Kipper to Chicago for a great package. That would be interesting.
It was a rumor that we would trade Jbo and take Thomas back as a cap dump. Also I get the feeling that Stempniak was signed as insurance incase we couldn't get a Hudler or a Mueller but if we get both he could be moved.

Most Boston fans believe Thomas could be had for cheap, as in not Bouwmeester. Giving up Bouwmeester for Thomas would be a fail of epic proportions considering we have a better and younger goalie in Kipper now. However, its an interesting thought. We would get a significant return for Kipper, and Thomas could take the ball for 2 more years until either Ramo or Irving is ready full time.

I'm not totally sold on it, but its something to consider and it does make some sense considering the Weisbrod connection.

@ Glen, we could trade Stempniak but that's a really uncommon move considering we just resigned him to a fairly good value deal. The thing to do IMO would be to treat it almost as if the player has a NTC, and ask him "hey, we got this offer for you and the team really likes you, would you be ok with this"? If they say no, I wouldn't do it. The Flames are already considered not a premier destination for FA's, doing that would only make it that much harder to sign future FA's.

I do like Mueller, hopefully the rumor is true.

If Calgary is trading for Thomas (lol) I agree, the only logical conclusions are

1) That he'll be playing, not taking a year off
2) That Kipper will be traded for pirate booty, with a Ramo/Irving tandem taking up the reins next season.

If Bouwmeester is going to Boston, I'd like a return of
- Ference (can play top four minutes, plus I like him)
- Tommy Cross (played at BC with Arnold & Gaudreau) however risk factor of "leaving home" might come into play
- Thomas
- Conditional draft pick (subject to # of games played by Thomas - 0-15 GP, 1st round pick, 16-25 GP, 2nd round pick, 26+ GP = no pick)

No Ference and we better be getting Dougie Hamilton or a top notch forward prospect.

I agree with Ference - it's more of a nostalgia move than anything. As for getting Hamilton in return... I'd say there's very little chance of that happening.

Oh man, Dougie would be beautiful... That kid is going to be a top guy in two years NHL wide.

If we could move Bouwmeester say for, Ference, Spooner and Thomas I'd do it. Then I'd ship Kipper off to the Hawks for one of their top prospects (Teuvo, Saad, McNeill or Leddy) and a 1st round pick. That's good asset management.

Of course you'd be playing without a goaltender next season.

Says who? Lots of speculation suggests Thomas would play if he was moved. I wouldn't trade for Thomas if he wasn't going to play next season.

Yea I wouldn't want to trade Stemps if he didn't want to but it is a business and if he isn't going to make the team I am sure he would accept a trade.

No it's not. 1.75 for a one year project is a low risk/ high reward contract. Seems very fair.

If the Flames signed him for that, we'd be happy.

Risk vs reward. Worst case scenario is he's on ir. Best case scenario this kid booms and Florida got the steal of this free agency.

I am a bit bummed out about this one. Would rather give him sub two mil than comeau this. No doubt.

Flames need something to give here. The team we're going to ice this year, currently, isn't good enough to do any kind of damage.

What if he isn't going to make the team and is likely going to be waived wouldn't trading him be a better option?

I think what we did for Hagman, Kotalik and Morrisson were the classy things to do. San Jose threw Setoguchi away after receiving a home town discount, which appears on the surface to be a dick-head thing to do, but maybe both parties discussed a sign and trade.

I think all of this is low risk-high reward signing so Feaster could think about one of this players
What do you think about that ?
