Nobody said he'd be on the radio or did I miss something ? I think people are just saying that because he's the only guy they know from the french media and forget or don't know that there are many intelligent french analysts
I know it's not confirmed, it's just speculation for now. However, if RDS indeed gets a radio station, chances are high that you'll hear Gaston Therrien on RDS990.
The CRTC shares some blame here. The law says you can only have 3 english langauge radio stations per company. Bell owns 4, so they chose TSN 990 as the one to cut. The fact that a law like this exists is mind-boggling.
Welcome to exactly what happened a little less than one year ago with CKAC.
As long as Marinaro disappears and that McGuire is still in charge of play-by-plays, I'll be happy with the move.
And frankly, I can't get the uproar about the eventual lack of an English sports radio. I mean... There's no French sports radio...!
This said, it kinda sucks that you had to lose one to get another.
if you think for a moment that an attention hungry guy like marinaro will be gone, you my friend are dilusional.
Marinaro will have his own show on RDS 990 book it.
He'll get the listeners and has the contacts and probably the sponsors to follow him.
The thing about french radio was that they only wanted to talk about habs and thats why instead of having a whole station they get shows on 98.5 but you know what that was a good move. It forced them to diversify.
I was happy with things cause in the day i listened to 990 and at night 98.5...They have good ppl on bonsoir les sportives but the rest will be very much the same thing 110% was.
I dont dislike all the french media, in fact most of the time i'm quiet impressed on how conversations can flow with not too much bias on l'antichambre and i find rds programming to actually be quite good, but melnick, tieman and the morning show and their teams will always be better.
And what about the wrestling and ufc fans in the city? what about the allouettes fans or the fans that are soccer fanatics? There is no way anyone on the french side will beat out noel butler...soccer and british commentary/analysis goes hand in hand...(you know its true)
you actually think canada is the one that imposed the limit of anglo stations per ownership group?
In radio, a company is normally restricted to owning no more than three stations in a single market, of which only two can be on the same broadcast band. (That is, a company may own two FM stations and an AM station, or two AMs and one FM, but may not own three FMs.) Under certain circumstances, local marketing agreements may be implemented, or the ownership rule may be waived entirely. For example, in Windsor, Ontario, Bell Media Radio owns most of the commercial broadcast outlets, due to the city's unique circumstances — being in the immediate environs of the Metro Detroit market in the United States, Windsor has historically been a difficult market for commercial broadcasters, so the CRTC waived its usual ownership restrictions to help protect the Windsor stations' financial viability.
See the little canadian flag there? That's usually a dead giveway.
