Senators extend Chris Neil (3 years, $1.9M cap hit)
Via Brennan, Chris Neil has signed a 3-year extension that will keep him a Senator until he's 37, I've been told. Believe it's worth $5.75 mil. #nhl#sens
Must be to avoid the age 35 rule. FYI he has one year left remaining on four year eight million dollar contract

Under the current CBA rule, any player that signs a contract after 35 would have there contract stuck on the cap unless a trade is facilitated. IE: Tim Thomas. So if Neil signed the contract while 35 years old, if he blew out his knee his cap hit would stay on the cap for the duration of the contract

Wow. Wouldn't have flinched if he got 3 mil. 10-15 goal scorer, 150+ good PIMS, consistently one of our best 2-3 playoff performers... Hell of a deal by BM.

He's great at what he does, he really pissed me off last year. I'd like to see him answer to Carkner now

Great contract for Sens, this guy was a pain in the ass in the playoffs. Contract is a steal when you compare it with Prust.

They are great friends apprently. Carkner would kill him though Neil would skate circles around him

He took a pay cut from his previous contract? This is a steal in a 70+ mil cap world
Happy for the Sens, Neil must be a very loyal guy

I have always wanted Neil on the Kings. But, I can see why he's so important to the Senators. Good for him and and the team.

Yeah and was a UFA. Big difference there. It's pretty clear Neil likes it in Ottawa and has no intention of leaving.
