When someone posts a link with the length of a contract someone wants, it could be true. But I think they are just there to be rumors. Maybe Doan does want a 4-5 year deal, but everyone said Parenteau held out on the Islanders because he wanted 6 years and he signes a 4 year deal with Colorado.
I'm sure Doan is willing to negotiate and see what teams have to offer, but Teddy just got 4.5mill per year. I see Doan getting at least 5+mill.
Purcell played a lot with Stamkos and St. Louis. He's decent, but not great.
He's making more than Joe Pavelski, and he isn't the player Pavelski is.
Purcell's contract is market value, considering the Cap now a days. Pavelski's was a downright steal when it was announced, and as been even more of a steal with the increasing cap. And Pavs was an RFA. Purcell will be a UFA when his new contract kicks in. Hardly comparable.
Immediate, yes. But he is from Western Canada and his wife is from BC so I assume her family is still there.
I'd imagine his kids are more important than his wife's parents (plus if he was that attached to Phoenix and gave them time with ownership issues, I can't imagine he'd immediately move. Who knows? Maybe he's thinking of Phoenix as a long-term city for his family?)

Back to my original point, this deal will drive up Doan's asking price. Doan's agent will use the fact that Doan has had 9 straight season's of 50+ points to his advantage. His agent will compare the deal and state that Purcell has only had 2 seasons with such numbers and will drive up Doan's price.

doan's asking price is already sky high. most of the persuing teams have plenty of cap space or can shed it quickly and the ufa field is utter trash right now. the only problem probably is term since he's old and i doubt the purcell contract matters much for that.
Agreed. If you watch that guy, he's got tons of skill. I don't think 4.5 is crazy for him. He's a top 6 guy now, took him a while to get there, and he's done really well in Tampa.
I really hope if Murray stays, robinson will make him a man on a mission this year, and play like a fricken beast again. Give him bottom pairing minutes and just PUNISH people.

Where does that leave Braun or Demers? At this point, they deserve to be in the line-up on a consistent basis.
how about sell off the overrated asset that is getting past his prime, and who already is to slow for the nhl, who also other then hitting brings nothing to the game.
So you want to trade a speedy puck-mover for 1-year of an extremely one-dimensional defenseman? Defensively, Braun is just as good as Murray (better if you use Murray of last-season). Offensively Braun >>> Murray.
When Larry Robinson did one of his original interviews after being named associate coach, he mentioned that he was looking forward to the strong defensive core that the Sharks had, and he mentioned Boyle, Burns and Murray.. I got from that, that Murray wasn't going to be moved.
Having bad memories of the time they beat us for Willie Mitchell. We better get Doan, if the Kings get Doan we are so screwed. If we get him we become pretty stacked and can compete. Need to offer term! Do it DW!

When the guy mentions Boyle, Burns, and Murray over Vlasic to describe the strong defensive core, you know it doesn't mean much ...
