Michael Del Zotto.

We've heard the prices for average Dmen is high, so just for fun, what would the value of MDZ be? Rangers need top 6 guys. Del Zotto is going to be signed relatively cheap for the next 2-3 years, and his defensive game improved alot from the year before.

you're right. he probably wouldn't fetch us scott gomez like ryan mcdonagh did, but the value of him is still pretty high with the market for defensemen and the need.

a 21 year old defenseman with 2 out of 3 40+ point seasons finishing strong in +/- while playing second pairing minutes. i don't think anybody wants steven stamkos str8 up for del zotto, but a top 6 guy isn't entirely out of the question--especially if packaged correctly.

Wow a Gomez joke, never heard that before.

He only has one 40+ point season (this year at 41 points), he only has one year as a plus player (he is a career -5), and he is 22 not 21. So now that that is out of the way we can actually have a discussion.

You also seem to neglect the horrible year he had in 10-11. It isn't that amazing to put up good numbers when you are the only offensive option on the blueline for a 1st place team, not to mention he had a babysitter for most of the year so he didn't have to worry about defense.

McD brought back Gomez, MDZ could probably get you DiPietro.

(That's how a Gomez joke is done)

No, that's just you failing miserably at it...

Just stop.

Maybe if you didn't respond with Rene Bourque straight up, you wouldn't have had to deal with the wrath of Gomez jokes.

I know they can sting quite a bit.

the value of MDZ is in NY keeping him and seeing him develop into an offensive defenseman who has the freedom to jump into the play, pinch along the boards and make those jaw dropping open ice hits.

Once he is an established 40+ point a season NHL defenseman, teams will be calling for him.

Then it will take a lot more than a Gomez to get him.

Maybe a Gomez and a 5th round pick, but NY would have to add in Marc Staal and Dan Girardi to balance things ooot.

I haven't mentioned Bourque in this thread and I really don't care about the Gomez deal, that was two regimes ago.

del zotto put up 40 points as a 21 year old. not a 22 year old. he ended the season as a 21 year old... okay 37 points in 80 games. close enough. he was a +25 last season. his +/- has improved every year he has played. i mean if you wanna be serious he's on pace to develop into a +40 next season.

last season he had a groin injury the majority of the season. he played through it most of the time and ended up missing 35 games. idk how you don't know that since you know everything about MDZ. no relapse of the injury this year. no value lost from it.

mcdonagh put up more even strength points than del zotto and did not play on the power play so del zotto was not our ONLY offensive threat from the blueline.

and who is this babysitter you're referring to... henrik lundqvist-- who was there every season mdz played? cause del zotto was playing with bickel/stralman most of the season. occasionally taking shifts with staal/mcd on the off-side. he had more of a "baby-sitter" in michael sauer last year who was concussed most of this season and played with del zotto last year.

Omg he's 22 yrs old! Bust! Out of his prime!

For the record, MDZ has had 2 good seasons in his career. He had a great rookie campaign and was rookie of the month in October, followed by a predictable sophomore slump for young d-men, hell we thought Subban was on one until he finished strong to end the season.

Please 'elaborate' on this babysitting you speak of.

Please do.

Anton Stralman is one hell of a baby sitter apparently. So good that even the Devils didn't want him baby sitting Larsson. He is so good no team wanted to sign him at the beginning of the season. He is so good Torts even admitted he didn't want Stralman playing for the Rangers.

Because you know, Staal wasn't back until mid January and like no games are played between October and January therefore Del Zotto was babysat by Staal the entire season that consists of January thru April.
