Hockey Stick, tape, question

So I purchased a Mission M-1 hockey stick recently off e-bay, and it arrived today. This is Jason Woolley pro stock, used at some point when he was in Detroit. Unfortunately, the tape from when he last used it is still on the tape. It's been on there for at least 6 years, and as you may know, when you leave tape on for a long time, it likes to stay on the stick, and almost gets a dusty like residue.

My question is if anyone knows a way to get rid of this.
