Teemu for HHOF?

Hi,

Hoping for some help here. Friend of mine has a Teemu Selanne stick, not sure from what season. Anyway, I told her that I will be shocked if he doesn't make the Hall of Fame. Anyone share that opinion? I've only followed hockey for a couple years, so perhaps I misjudged what it takes to make the Hall.

Thanks for your opinions.

Yes, I have no doubt he will be there.

There's not much serious debate anymore. If your friend disagrees that Selanne is worthy, she either has an absurdly high barrier to HOF induction, or she has an axe to grind.

He is a lock to be a first ballot inductee. Not many players have had more impressive careers than Selanne.

If Sundin can be first ballot, Selanne has a good chance for first ballot too.

I still don't get how Sundin was a first ballot inductee. He was as consistent as anyone but he was never among the games absolute elite.

sorry, I probably didn't word this too well. There is no disagreement, she simply had no idea what Teemu has accomplished during his career.

certainly appreciate all of the quick responses. Thank you.

Yeah I don't really agree with that one. He deserves to be in, but first ballot is a little weird. Shanahan had many more goals, has more points, played more games (lower PPG doesn't matter as much to me), and is really up there in terms of "power forward." Cups. Second highest scoring LW in history.

Sundin's credentials mostly consist of consistency and international play.

Teemu should've "retired" been inducted...then come back. Then Mario wouldn't be the only player with that honor. lol

Edit: damn phone

Selanne is a guarantee to be a first ballot HHOFer. Top-100 player of all time who was mightily impressive right up until he retired? Absolute lock.

He's an easy lock for a first ballot induction.

You mean before his knee surgery? He may not have been considered 1st ballot by some at that time but he definitely would have still been inducted.

I feel the way he has been playing since the lockout has bumped him up to a first balloter all the way.

Guy Lafleur and Gordie Howe both came back after being inducted into the HHOF as well.

As other has said, Teemu is a first ballot lock. He still has an outside chance at 700 goals too!
