Great deal for us.

I was, but since then the cap and salaries have inflated, and I've started appreciating Neil's game more and more.

The first page and common sense tells you that he was being sarcastic/trolling.

Great news! Neil is a fan favourite. I couldn't see him in another team's jersey.

I will admit that I HATED his current deal - I didn't believe a cap team could afford to pay a fourth line player $2M 3 years ago. This deal however, given the cap amount and salary structure is absolutely fantastic. Good on Chris for choosing to stay and committing to the team as early and for a discounted price (especially considering Zenon and Carkner left). Glad he'll be here for another 3 years.

Awesome, I thought they may not sign him long term with all the forwards we have, but it'll be good to see him get to 100 goals and retire as a Sen

Barring injury or early retirement, he will.

2 Millions was a fair price for what Neil brought to the team, not only on the ice. He's known to be the most vocal of the leaders in the dressing room.

Then, you look at contracts like Prust in MTL. 10 Millions for 4 years. Yikes.

Awesome contract extension for an awesome player.

Exactly this deal looks great now, but what exactly is Neil gonna have left in the tank when he is 36-37 years old is the question. Still, 2 million is not a very burdensome number.

Paying someone under 2 mil can never make a contract too long.

And people calling Neil a 4th liner are REALLY underminding his abilities. Neil easily produces decent 3rd line scoring, that alone making him a not half bad 3rd liner. His hitting, shot blocking, agitating, fighting tangents are what make him a good 3rd liner.

Even is Neil loses a step making him less effective physically, he's still a smart enough hockey player to find another important role to play.

If Chris Neil is on your third line, your team doens't have the scoring depth required to win the Stanley Cup.

He's an EXCELLENT fourth line player...no shame in that.

I think a lot of contending teams would love to have Chris Neil play on their 3rd line. He's a valuable commodity that brings a physical presence who can also skate well enough and has decent enough hands to hold his own with higher skilled players on the ice.

Chris Neil hasn't been thought of as a 4th line player in this league for a good 5 years now.

I laugh every offseason when Sens fans make lineups with Neil playing on the 4th line when he never ends up playing there.

I guess in the scenario where the Sens end up with another RW group as unbelievable as Alfie, Hossa and Havlat then you can make that argument. But check around the league and you'll quickly see that this type of scoring depth doesn't really exist anymore. Everyone loads up their top 2 lines and the 3rd line is for the most part, a checking/energy line which sometimes contains a decent scoring threat.

I think he'll have enough to be worth that while still being the dressing room voice until he retires. It also makes the possibility of him sticking around to do on ice work after retirement more likely.

There is no complaining about this contract anyone, he'd have easily gotten more elsewhere....and not only did he not try to get more elsewhere, it's clear he barely even thought about it.
