It would not be a surprise to see him make it straight out of the draft tbh.
But I doubt that will happen.
If the Islanders follow through with thier policy of the Snow era, Reinhart will have to beat out deHaan, Ness, Donovon, Carkner & MacDonald for a spot on this seasons roster.
The rule was essentially make the Top-4 of the NHL roster or play in a Top-4 in the minors. That is why deHaan got sent down the past 3 training camps and why Hamonic was too. With that said I dont know how that rule will apply to this year as Snow has said that he is holding open one spot in the D for a rookie to earn. Most on the Islander board expect that to be on the bottom pairing, I however think it will be a spot on the second pairing. something along the lines of
Jeebus, if Reinhart is on the Islanders to start the season, they are screwed. That kid is a terrible skater.
I don't get where people are getting this "terrible skating" bit from. He actually is a very good skater given his size and an above average skater in general. When you seem him live, you really get an idea of how good of an overall package, skating included, he actually is.
My feeling is that he will be a top 2 dman in the NHL for 10+ seasons. He's that good, imo.
I saw him throughout the year, I watched the top prospects game, I saw him in the playoffs and the Mem Cup. I don't see top end offensive upside.
I see more of a defence first type defenceman...
I think he is pretty good all over the ice tbh. But Im a bit of a homer. Did you see top end offensive upside in Weber in his draft year? Or Seabrook?
I think he has the tools/smarts/talent to be like those guys. I dont think of them as offensive dmen, but all round studs, which is what I believe Reinhart has the potential to be.
I bet Reinhart will be better then Murray. He is very underatted on HF. Rumor has it he was #2 on the Oilers list. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a really good camp but goes back to
Edm for this season. No harm in another year in the Dub he's still very young.
Me too. Looking forward to seeing him with the Oil Kings too. The Islanders and their fans are going to be loving this pick.
in a draft where the "experts" were all over the map in terms of their rankings, it is hard to be disappointed with a huge defenceman whose offensive ability and skating are quite capable.
If you're loving what you're reading, wait 'til you guys actually see him on the ice. The blend of size, strength, and skill will make you salivate. You guys have probably hit a home run with him, imo.
I (vomit) agree with Liquor on Reinhart's skating ability. One of those "over-criticisms" that happens with prospects. Kid moves better than he should for being as big and thick as he is at 18.

I hope so man, Reinhart-Hamonic would be a pretty awesome pairing for the top line.
