If the Rangers wanted to trade Stepan, they would have completed a deal or Nash or Ryan weeks ago.

Wanna know what Nash is? A 30-30 player getting paid like a 50-50 player.

thinking he'll do better is wishful thinking.
If a 50-50 player were to hit free agency today he would get a billion dollars on a front-loaded deal.

Fans expectations of players salaries haven't changed since the cap was $39 million.

right back at you. there is no cut an paste answer for every player
in the league. he's only 28. he's a top 10 player in the league when playing with other talented players. Richards would be a perfect compliment.

Marc-Andre Gragnani signs a 1 year, two-way deal with the Hurricanes.

I'm actually pretty surprised Grags couldn't get a one-way deal in this market... It shouldn't be a problem because he should be in the NHL with the 'Canes full-time, but it's still pretty surprising.

Not true. Well definitley not for Nash. I doubt that would be the thing keeping it up. If howsen got off his high horse sather would prob make the deal.

Whats not true about it? Sather has made it clear through the media that he is not dealing stepan, mcdonagh or kreider. Stepan has been a winner on multiple levels. He has a bright future. CBJ and ANA would definitely want him and if he was included the deal would be done. But he's not being included.

Greg Caggiano's nonsense yesterday was actually a welcome reprieve from the entire "Stepan for Nash" discussion. Talk about a tired topic, it's the same points being rehashed again and again and again.

Jim Cerny chat

Jim Cerny: U2: welcome to the chat, and thanks for the question...and am glad you asked this question because there is a feeling out there that the Rangers are sitting on their hands doing nothing regarding trying to get a scorer up front or another d-man...well trust me Glen Sather and Jeff Gorton are working the phones, there are many discussions taking place...but these things take time, and the Rangers are being VERY protective of their young assets...but, yes, the Rangers are trying to get something done
http://blueshirtsunited.com/live

The Rangers are looking at other options. Smaller deals. Big deals.

But after months of howsen wanting two of kreider, mcd, mdz i dont think all of a sudden sather is holding the trade up for one single player, especially a 2nd liner.

Exactly. 28.

The list of players that have improved their numbers after such an age its very short and very elite. Nash is not an elite player.

Also give me a break on this "he's had nobody to play with". Who was Kovalchuk playing with when he was consistently in the 90s and scoring 50 goals? Thats the type of player you pay 7.8 million, not 30-30 Nash.

Wow the more I think of it the more horrible getting Nash seems. Giving up assets, that cap hit and that many years for a 58 point player...ouch. Cataclysmic.

So at age 28 he should already be enrolled in AARP?

Ah, wishful thinking from the "I WANT NASH NOW!!11!" crowd.

It's been reported several times by Brooks that Stepan is not on the table.

Let it go.

A 22 year old center who keeps improving. Could put up 60 points next year. You want a quick fix. Stop being short sighted.

I'll get the list later when I'm at a computer. You'll be surprised that very few players have improved after that age, and of those that did many are generational talents. So yeah, very much wishful thinking that Nash will be reborn, motivated, on a mission, born again, etc etc blah blah blah and score a hundred points for the Rangers (which he's paid to do but only gets 58 *shrug*).

I know in today's NHL goals are at a premium, but there's a good chance Stepan could have more points than Nash this season.

wellllllll he had savard in 04 and 06 (41 and 52 goals)... hossa and kozlov in 07 and 08 (scored 42 and 52)...not to mention having savard/hossa/heatley/kozlov working with him on the power play where he was a monster every year. Yeah.
