Exactly.
Stepan is revered as though he were the Canes' Skinner, and he doesn't currently show anywhere's near that level of talent scoring.

He can distribute, at this point. That's about it.
He does legitimately have upside, room to grow, but he's overvalued, IMO.

Agreed. Sather said stepan is untouchable. Howson is reported to have not asked for stepan. That's why these reports of stepan's name still surfacing every now and then are interesting

Some news on DZ

Quote:
Jim Cerny: DMalles: they are looking into defensemen for sure, likely via trade...but you do have Girardi, Staal, McDonagh, Sauer (yes, I know the concussion), Bickel, and Erixon under contract...and Stralman is going to arbitration so he's likely back, and MDZ is RFA who is negotiating a multi-year deal as we speak...that's a good start, 8 pretty good players there, assuming Sauer gets healthy, Erixon matures and takes it to next level, etc

When legit star players are available, you go after them. I get that this one costs assets to get, but, imho, Nash is better than both Gabby and Richards. On this team I can see him scoring 40/40 playing on the 2nd line with Stepan and Cally.
Nash is not a better hockey player than Brad Richards, and I'd even say Gaborik is better too. Richards is much better and its not close though.

For once I agree with you bern, and before I present my opinion I want to say for the record I'm not for trading Stepan. Now then, his skating is poor, he needs to bulk and toughen up, he stinks on face offs, and his shot isn't so great. He has great iq, great vision, and should be a consistent 20 goal 60 point second line center

I'm glad names like Hossa and Heatley are coming up. Two players that are and were much better than Nash in my opinion and it illustrates how, as a player ages, the numbers dip. Even Kovalchuk's numbers have as he has adapted to defensive play.

Again though, this was done at a young age for Kovalchuk. Those years are gone for Nash.

In the past five seasons, here are his top two teammates he shared the most TOI with.

11-12: Prospal/Brassard
10-11: Voracek/Brassard
09-10: Vermette/Huselius
08-09: Huselius/Malhotra
07-08: Hejda/Zherdev

Stepan at 22 years old and a center on this team, is not "overvalued.". Its called an asset.

That's not true. I wasn't around for the Gabby signing, but everyone was ecstatic when we signed Richards, the long time coveted #1 center

Clearly all star caliber players at age 28 Nash is declining???????? Good Lord maybe the team that trades for Nash should ask for a Hoveround in the deal

vyborny is not as good as kozlov, heatley, hossa or savard. if somebody says rj umberger i might just throw up.

and bern's comment is on the money. stepan is a nice player with decent upside but he's no skinner.. stop overvaluing home grown guys. do you want to have a competitive team with "our guys" or do you want to win stanley cups? sometimes its tough parting with good guys who are good players, but when you get the chance to improve your team and win you take it.

Actually,I believe Stepan is who Howson wants and Slats/Gorton say

Portzline shoots down the reports of McDonagh or Kreider being in the deal but doesn't mention that in reference to Stepan. I have heard a few interviews with Portzline in the last week and it seems the inclusion of Stepan is the sticking point. Then he says the deal can be done without Stepan and mentions Anisimov or Hagelin. On twitter,Portzline makes it seem McDonagh,Kreider or Stepan aren't deal breakers but he sort of changes his stance in the interviews.

Nash really didn't. Brad Richards is the most underrated player in the NHL in my mind. He is a legitimate superstar. If Rick Nash plays with him, I have no doubt he could score 40-50 goals. Just because Richards is better doesn't mean anything about Nash being bad, if anything it has nothing to do with him, more of just a compliment to Richards.

Lexus, you are new here - be careful trying to apply logic and common sense to trade discussions - its dangerous to your health!
