Hodgson/Kassian trade making more sense every day. Gragnani was included in that, right?

LOL, please keep him on your team Canes, it will guarantee at least 10 points lost in the standings.

Just ask Buffalo and now I'm sure Vancouver fans.

Not sure Sangs or MAG passes through waivers. Although GMs seem to let most guys pass through out of a gentlemens agreement after camp.

To me it looks like a trade is coming or Murphy is going back. But, we actually may carry 8 D to start the season because you know Murphy will get his 9 games in.
I believe that they will both be subject to waivers this season.

They were actually 2 seperate deals not that it matters

MAG has great vision offensively which impressed me but he's beyond terrible in his own end

I barely remember Gragnani. Expected a bit more of an offensive side but he seemed rather useless.

One of the worst defense-man I've ever seen. The ONLY thing he can do is skate well and a decent shot. He should not have been a D man. Should of been a winger IMO.

Precisely. Could work, could not, but he can be sent down to the minors if need be.

I read on the Canucks board that he was offered a two way deal, but said he'd go to arbitration thinking he deserved a 1 way deal (ha!) and that was what caused Gillis to not qualify him. He was bad, but I think he had potential, so maybe Carolina can turn him into another MAB.

If he has a future in the NHL it's at forward, not defense.

Eh, I'll go against the flow here and wish him the best in Carolina. I thought he could cut it as a #5-6 after some tough coaching loving but maybe Gillis thought that there was too much work to be done.

He has great offensive vision regardless and in the right situation he'll get to work with his defensive game. No doubt he'll be in the wrong end of highlight reels if given too much TOI, though.

I always liked him as a prospect, but he was just terrible last year. Consistently. Enjoy the no look cross ice passes to the opposition forwards. Stick him in the AHL and see if he can find his game again.

Way too soft, when a defenceman is afraid of the corners, he's pretty useless. Can definitely pass the puck though, kind of a mediocre shot.

I could see him paired with a responsible partenar on a bottom pairing and handling some PP time one day... On a 2-way deal it's not a bad risk for Carolina.

They were processed as separate deals, but for all intents and purposes yeah. Hodgson for Kassian and Sulzer for Gragnani.

Sulzer had immediate chemistry with his German Olympic partner Ehrhoff and got re-signed before FA began (he was set to be a UFA).

Grags was an RFA, not even qualified after playing precisely the minimum number of games to retain RFA status, and now signs a 2-way deal with Carolina.

We knew we won the D-man swap the moment the deal went down.

It's true, Gragnani is just not good. I know he had that good playoffs a few years ago but even then he really didn't impress me and last year was enough to prove I was right. He was a disaster most nights. Tons of awful giveaways, soft, and even his PP decisions frustrated me; I'd rather have had someone else on that point instead of him. His shot is just average and he rarely uses is; he'll more than likely look to make a pass instead, and give it away, like this beauty:

We love Sulzer and almost every Sabres fan I know was jumping for joy when we traded Gragnani. I was never a fan of Chris Butler and loved when he was traded, but I'd take him every day of the week over MAG. At least for Carolina it's a two-way, so an alright signing, but Canes fans don't want to expect anything more than him being the 7th or in the AHL this season. I really hope Gragnani has some success; he seems like a good kid. I'm just glad he's not in Buffalo anymore.

It's a shame that GMMG couldn't get more for Sulzer. I always thought he'd be a solid #4-5 D-man but he was simply stuck too much depth to have value. Good to see that he's showing his goods in Buffalo.

He had some good games against Boston in the past. Very surprised he couldn't land a one-way contract. Seems like a decent pickup to me.

The AHL is around his level of thinking at the moment. Could end up finishing top 10 in scoring.

The best thing for his NHL future is to get it in his head that he isn't NHL caliber yet. He's good at two things, skating and outlet tape to tape passes (to either team). He signed the contract last year and suddenly thought he could attempt a behind the back cross ice pass every game. If he keeps it simple and deflates his huge ego he could easily put up 30-40 assists a year even in the NHL. Right now he's just a really bad version of Kaberle (terrible shot pass first) who isn't that great to begin with.

What a brutal trade for Vancouver. This guy they threw away. Kassian looks to be a good 3rd liner int he future. Sucks they were put into that position.

Some people seem to have some confusion here. These were two separate deals:

1) Cody Hodgson for Zack Kassian

2) Marc Andre Gragnani for Alexander Sulzer

Not related at all, so I'm not sure why Kassian or Hodgson are being mentioned here. I'm also not sure how we are declaring a winner already in the Hodgson-Kassian swap but whatever.
