Excellent value for Lindback. I was expecting a 2nd round pick by itself, let alone that package, PLUS we rid ourselves of K Wilson (no offense to him, but he isn't worth a 1-way contract for a team who is too deep to play him).

Will miss him though. He's got great, but risky potential.

Caron never played in Philly. He made one of the nicest saves in NHL history against Philly tho. Lol.

To me, if a team is trading for a guy to come in and be your number 1 goalie, you have to give up a 1st rounder and a second.

Even if he's a young goalie who hasn't played more than 15 games a season and has one of the worlds best goalies in front of him?

not when he's an unproven heretofore backup that's coming off a pretty terrible season.

His stats in Pitt were terrible.

Pittsburgh
7-14-2
9-24-5
8-9
Chicago
1-0
Tampa Bay
1-1

Never played in the playoffs...

His best year was 1-0 on Chicago when he posted his only winning season in the NHL.

to be fair to caron, he was on some absolutely dreadful penguins teams.

not hoping caron ends up being the backup here, just saying, he was in a bad situation.

I would say his 8-9 season in Pittsburgh would be better than a 1-0 season in Chicago, winning season or not.

Caron was obviously a depth move. I don't think he wins the spot out of camp.

I think he was included simply to balance contracts. His contract is up July 1st, I don't think he'll be in camp. Many better options on the UFA market(not because it's a strong UFA class for goalies, but because Caron is that bad.)

I wonder if Poile will look to bring Dex back after his injury-plagued season last year.

Not as someone to rely on but added competition for the backup spot. Even on a tryout basis. Unless, of course, they don't think too highly of him.

I believe Poile said the have no intention of doing anything with Caron. He just walks.

What about going after someone like Brent Johnson to backup Rinne?

About Lindback. Is he the real deal? Can this guy be a top starter in the NHL for TBay??

okok, that's the safe answer.

let's say Rinne went out for the season last year with an injury.

would you guys have full confidence in Lindback? I don't know much about him, I would like to gauge your confidence level in him after watching him play for a few seasons….

Absolutely not, but then again we probably won't have Suter and Weber on the back end this year.

Lindback has the potential to be a number one. He has played well when given the opportunity to play more than just a spot start. He could e every good as pekka, or he could be every bit as bad as roloson last year. I personally think he can be a very good goalie.

Well, when you have Pekka Frickin' Rinne as your starter, it's hard to have full confidence in any one else.

But for me at least the confidence level would be pretty high with Lindback.
For whatever reason (the team in front of him didn't play as they usually do), he had a rough year for us last year, but the year before that he was quite good.
He has many of the same attributes that Pekka does, BIG, athletic, doesn't quit on a save. He did/does have some rebound control issues.

people forget but Lindback saved our season in 10-11.... Rinne missed something like 13 games and he went 10-3, and we actually moved up substantially in the standings when he was starting evey day not once a month...

I think if he winsthe starting job out of camp and the defense in front of him isnt total crap he will be a solid starter..

I was going to say something along these lines. In 10-11 Rinne got hurt in the first game, and had Lindback not come in playing pretty damn good hockey (his first every regular season games in NA, mind you) there is a change the Preds don't make the playoffs. Almost certainly they would have been a lower seed and been bounced in the first round.

Lindback had a rough season, but he was never really able to get into a groove. Between 6 March and 7 April Lindback played in five games, starting four of them, and going 3-1 in those starts (we lost the 6 March game to the Kings 5-4, but Lindback only played 15 minutes of that game giving up no goals on 4 shots). During those five games his GAA was 1.00 (1.25 without the 6 March game). His SV% was .946 (.933 without the 6 March game).

I'm not saying that he definitely can take the reigns and be a great goalie, but the kid has shown he has the chops. He had a rough season, sure, but it was his second season in North America at all, let alone the best league in the world. I think he is much like Rinne both in style and size, but I think Lindback also shares Rinne's ability to get better if used as a workhorse.

Don't be too impatient with him. He is 24. Let him settle in, and I'll bet you guys end up very happy with the trade.
