Opinion: It is the same old story with a "prospect" like this... They looked great in college, which is roughly 80% of the speed of the NHL. They do OK in the AHL, which is roughly 90% of the speed of the NHL. They will never amount to much in the NHL, because that remaining 10% requires assets that the prospect in question does not possess.

Arrogant Statement: If Benoit Pouliot had the processing power of my brain, he would be a perennial 50-60 goal, 100 point player. If I had the physical assets of Benoit Pouliot, I'd be making millions in the NHL.

Pouliot's body + Brunette brain = perfect NHL player.

Spurgeon's hockey IQ is off the charts... Genoway...not so much. Genoway is a career AHLer at best IMO.

He's played what, one NHL game? I don't see him, or Kampfer, or Cuma for that matter, having much of a future behind this D corps, but I wouldn't necessarily call him a dud just yet.

Alright then, what would his value be if we looked to trade him? Surely he could fit in somewhere. Honestly, I have always thought of him as on the same level and same skill set as Goligoski but slightly smaller. I have a hard time believing that he can't make it in the NHL. I believe he can, he just needs to be given that chance.

When compared to an NHL caliber Jared Spurgeon? Absolutely his hockey IQ doesn't matchup! Spurgeon's hockey IQ blows away a lot of players though.
