Some reliable sources on twitter are saying it's for only 600,000$

Picture perfect low risk, high reward move.

What a train wreck of a career. Over the course of three seasons has gone from a first line, 65-point player to a guy getting 10-12 minutes a night and the first choice to be yanked from the line-up when his team is struggling.

Peter Mueller ended up not working out for the Avalanche, but that trade with Phoenix was still a win for Colorado.

Wolski has really fallen pretty far. Steadily, too. Just look at his diminishing returns: As a pending RFA, he got Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter back. Halfway through the first year of his new contract he was worth an (allegedly) overpaid defenseman in Rozsival. Just over another year later he got a career AHLer (Vernace) and a third. Now, as a UFA, he's signed for under a million dollars in an offseason where Brandon Prust got 2.5 million.

Or look at point totals. Starting with his first full season, he's put up 50, 48, 42, 65*, 35, and finally 12 points last year.

*This includes the 18-points-in-16-games tear he went on after being traded to Phoenix.

He was never thought to be a scorer. He was drafted to be a two-way player.

He's a soft, lazy player BUT he does seem to really love a change of scenery. He might have a fantastic first forty games for the Caps before he crashes and burns. For 600kay, he's totally worth it.

He was useful for a few goals and helping us in shootouts, something we're still desperate to get better at, and frankly at that price I'd take him back. He can be a liability of course, can't see him being a nightly regular. He was pulled out of the playoffs pretty quickly, did not show up there.

I personally think Wolski sucks, but he DOES have some offensive talent, at that price he's worth the gamble.

If you're being sarcastic, I apologize, but this is incorrect. From his scouting report:

" Scouting Report: Has excellent scoring instincts and tremendous puck-handling skills. However, he doesn't use his 6-3 to score in high-traffic areas, which is something he must correct in order to crack an NHL lineup down the road. Also needs work without the puck and on defensive-zone coverage. Led the Battalion in scoring in 2003-04 and added five goals and eight points in 12 postseason games--though he did struggle defensively (-5).Failed to make the Canadian WJC or World under-18 squads in recent years, mainly because of his deficiencies without the puck. Will need to correct that, or risk being labeled a 'one-trick' pony.

Impact: The Avalanche need offensive prospects that can put up points, since they are expected to lose at least Peter Forsberg and Teemu Selanne this summer (and possibly even Paul Kariya). Wolski fills a big need for the future, and possibly even in the short term. Look for Wolski to become a big scorer in Colorado, since the club has a knack for finding room for offensive talent in their lineup."

It'll be fun to see what happens to him on the team where Semin was branded lazy.

He'll most likely be the 13th forward.

OVERPAYMENT!

Fantastic deal, I'd never believe he could sign this... Less than 1% of current cap, OMG, this is mother of a steal no matter how much lazy and soft he is.

Injuries haven't been the issue with Wolski.

As a Caps fan, I hope it works out better for Wolski than Vokoun's "prove yourself" deal worked out for him.
