I know Laich is normally a C/LW, so either he gets bumped to the third line or he's going to have to play on his off-wing on one of the top two lines.

That leaves the following as their bottom six forwards:

Hendricks-Johansson-Beagle
Ward-Perreault-Crabb

While the Caps have finally addressed their need to improve their center depth, adding another legitimate top six forward would really help their overall forward depth.
I expect Perrault to get more top 6 times than Wolski.

It's pathetic how lazy Wolski is. All that talent gone to waste. And fans were saying Semin was lazy.

All in all a solid signing though. Maybe theres a possibly he realizes he's gone from the NHL unless he rebounds this year.

That page cites a source that does not say whether it's a one-way or two-way deal. It simply doesn't say. So for the moment, capgeek has a placeholder.

If Semin plays lazy, you can't make him your 13th forward or send him to Hershey on a $6.7M deal. He knows it, too. Wolski knows you can, and if it doesn't have any effect, you simply follow through on the threat.

If he doesn't his act back together in Washington this season, he never will.

Safe bet is that he won't though. Constant injury problems and laziness aren't a great combo.

Kinda reminds me of Comrie signing in Pittsburgh before calling it. Similar player and situation. Sans superstar wife. Cheers.

I think he'll be fine.
He has the skills to be a guy who deserves 4-5 million $ in this league and he'll want to prove that to cash in next summer.
When should he be willing to compete if not right now? Good signing by the caps! Go for it, Wojtek!

How many more years it's going to take for people to realize how bad this guy really is?

When he signs at league minimum with some team next summer? Summer after that? Or when he bolts for Europe, whenever that might be.

Not a fan of Wolski, but at that price it's a good signing. There are AHLers that make more.

At 600k it's definitely worth the risk. I'd love to see what happens if he actually put up a good season at this cap hit. HF would probably implode.

Anyone who thinks this is not a steal is delusional. This will probably end up being the best "bang for buck" signing of the offseason.

While a good signing, mainly because of the price. I do find it ironic Washington may have found the only UFA who has less character and heart than Semin, at least by TSN standards.

It depends on whoever earns it but, yeah, that's essentially the battle at this point.

600K is a STEAL. Wolski had 65 points two seasons ago. The guy has a great shot and can put up 50 points again playing with Ribeiro.

Anyone who thinks signing a 4th liner to a cheap contract is a steal is delusional. He probably won't play in half the games for WSH anyway.

The price indicates that he'll be a healthy scratch/4th liner. People seriously think he is Semin's replacement?

The year when the Avs traded him he had 47 points in 62 games (65 points in 80 games that year) all whilst being touted as 'lazy'.

If someone were able to light a fire under his ass, he could be a very good player.

How about sometime during the 3 previous chances he had?

A lot of people have been disappointed thinking that Wolski would perform on a new team/under new circumstances.

For $600K it's a solid signing. Low-risk, potentially high-reward. Maybe Wolski will ride his standard hot streak for more than a few games and actually work while he's out on the ice all season long. But that outcome should be a surprise, not an expectation.
