The third team to offer Coyotes Captain Shane Doan a contract following LA and San Jose is the Vancouver Canucks!

It's too bad. The contract/cap hit. The players that would need to go the other way. Just not a fit.
See I totally get this. Fair point.

Thornton has never been a linemate of Manny Malhotra

Something inside tells me he'd do very well with Torts, if he buys into the system.

As for Joe Thornton, I think he's more talented than Nash. I also think he is what he is at this point - a guy who gets a lot of regular season points, but just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who leads a team to a championship.
Interesting.

Are you concerned that Nash does not have what it takes to help lead a team to championship?

I think he means Marleau, Heatley, Clowe, Setoguchi, Murray, Knuble, Rolston, Guerin, Samsonov, Kristich and others at various points of his career.

And for the record, I think Thornton is more talented than Nash. I just don't think the argument that Thornton hasn't had some pretty darn good wingers is a good one.

This is Doan's agent

He played on St.John's final 4 team in 1985 with Chris Mullin and Mark Jackson.

Bross is a baseball player agent. Doan is his only NHL client.

It looks like Sather is content going into the season w pretty much the same offense as last year unless he can get Nash

Agreed. No way the Rangers do this if Stepan is going the other way.

Could we stop comparing Nash to other players and whether we agree to a deal or not, admit he's a great but not elite talent

Same offense as last year only without, you know, our leading goal and point scorer. Who needs him right?

Doan to SJ only helps The Rangers with Nash. That said I think Doan signs with Vancouver.

Someone on main board mentioned oshie for mdz. Would anyone do that for the intent of trading him to Columbus? Or stepan? Shakes out something like stepan mdz Dubinsky for oshie and Nash

When you already have a dismal offense and are now losing pretty much the only glimmer of hope your offense had, then it might be time to take a risk.

Semin is just sitting there rotting.

Certainly a possability.

With that said, if the Rangers can get him, and not dismantle the team in the process, I think he's primed to be a really good addition.

His strengths play right into what this team is lacking. Nash isn't a playmaker who also scores some goals, he's not even an all-around offensive player type. He is a goal scorer, pure and simple. He scores more goals than assists, and that should be his bread and butter.

The problem is that his biggest skill is not nearly as effective if he lacks a playmaking center.

From a pure goal scoring standpoint, Nash is arguably good enough to be one of the top 5 or 6 in the league. The question is, can the right team and the right system get him back on track. Personally, I think the Rangers and Torts can. I think he's actually a better pure goal scorer than Gaborik, though Gaborik is a better all-around offensive player.

Depends, if he wants to stay closer to home. If he does, SJ is going to be more tempting.

Agreed. We need to improve our offense somehow.

So far, we made lateral moves, but no significant upgrades.
