********. You don't "deserve" anything being a huge defensive liability. MAB didn't do us any favors by signing with with us, he did it so he could get a two year deal. He is incredibly expendable. Does anyone really want to see him logging 15-20 sheltered minutes a night? Our D has improved big time, I would hate to have him as a regular just because he performed well out of no where.
Honestly, I hope we move him. We have Carle and Salo, with Hedman's D game hopefully developing further and Lee and Brewer being no slouches on the O-side themselves. MAB is redundant and unnecessary.
Boucher loves him, and you can bet that if he's healthy he's going to be in play for spot use as a 7 d.
The Lightning is interested in Shane Doan, but it does not appear the unrestricted free agent has much interest in Tampa Bay.
“I’ve called and haven’t gotten a call back, so I assume there’s not an interest there,” general manager Steve Yzerman said. "That’s all I can say.”
how rude
Quote:
With Doan seemingly out of the picture, Yzerman, speaking generally, said it is "not likely" he will make any more moves this summer.
"You never know," he said. "You continue to work your way and stay in touch with people around the league and see what's going on, and if something fits be prepared to act. But for the most part I think we addressed a lot of needs. I want to keep an opportunity on our team for some of the younger guys that played so well for Norfolk to come in and have a chance to make the team. So, unless it's a player I know is going to be better than one of those guys, we're not going to fill a spot."

Doesn't bode well for any return of Dominic Moore.
Who knows, maybe he's one of the players Yzerman considers to be better a better option than some of our Calder Cup champions but Moore's priorities just lie elsewhere right now (wife, family).
Stamkos -Lecavalier - Purcell/Malone
Carle/Salo/MAB - St. Louis
I like to have Stamkos and Vinny on the same unit because theres a elite scorer on each circle. Purcell on the unit gives Stammer flexibility to go into the slot, infront of the net etc while Teddy waits at the left circle waiting to snipe and recycle the puck to the point. MSL is great on the point, he knows his teamates tendencies so he can make the appropriate play. When Malone is on the top unit he can be the big body infront of the net. The other point man I would like to see one of the 3 dmen mentioned above.
That's a pretty solid top unit. I could also see Vinny on the 2nd unit with Purcell and Pouliot/Brown... Brewer didn't look out of place on the PP either and we also have MAB, Carle and Hedman... We have so many options again.
You guys do remember St Louis on the point right? Hes not very good.
Frankly I think the better formation for us is a diamond with an extra guy down low or in the high slot.
I think there will be a lot more rotation and movement this year though.
Doan here would be awesome, and we have the room for him. It would be nice if he would at least call back and say not interested. Not answering or returning the phone calls is kind of unprofessional.
Purcell - Stamkos - St. Louis
Malone - Lecavalier - Brown/Connolly
Pouliot - Thompson/Killorn - Brown/Connolly/Conacher
Crombeen - Killorn/Thompson/Pyatt - Pyatt
Conacher - Hall - Tyrell
Hedman - Carle
Salo - Brewer
Lee - Bergeron/Aulie/Mikkelson/Barberio/Taormina
Lindback - Garon
We have too many players for the 4th line. Three spots and Crombeen, Tyrell, Hall, Thompson, Pyatt. And if Conacher or/and Killorn makes team... another two players. And IMO, Taormina is better than Mikkelson, so I hope that he will by better in camp.

This. Doesn't anyone remember? I can recall at LEAST twice when Marty was on the point and he mishandled the puck or got it stolen from him, which lead to a shorthanded goal for the other team. I don't like Marty on the point. I like him behind the net or on the halfboards, preferably the right circle halfboards.
This whole "too few roster spots" problem is exactly the problem you want to have at the start of the season. Remember how much the injuries piled up last year? Remember rolling out three 4th lines during a stretch in the second half of the season? Remember starting Sebastien Caron?
The Kyle Wilsons and Matt Taorminas of the world might not love shuttling back and forth between Syracuse and Tampa, but for a team that wants to contend, this kind of depth is totally necessary.

The problem isn't depth. It is too many 1 way contracts IMO.

BINGO !!!! You are so correct.
Kusic also nailed it...

Two solid lines and then eight 4th liners... Lots of $$$$ left to sign one or two more forwards.
Not worried about the money. It is all about who is and isn't waiver exempt.
Yea I see what your saying. In that case you gotta be super careful about who you send down or call up. Not that it isnt already an important thing you dont want to sleep on. Its just one of those things that can bite you if its the "wrong" guy. Happens to every team in this league though.
I was recently looking at TB roster and I saw that they had about 9 defensman listed on the roster. Is this correct? and If so what would the cost be for oe of
1) Aulie
2)Lee
3)Mikelson..
The reason I ask is because the Isles need one more defensman to fill out thier bottom 6....
Now deHann or Donovan is the most likley option but if the team were to go the trade route I thought Tampa would be willing to part with a dman...

Thoughts?
Thank you
We got Aulie and Lee at the trade deadline, so it's probably too soon to move them.
Mikkelson came in at the beginning of January, and would conceivably be the one traded (of the ones you listed)
Although we do have a perfectly good Marc-Andre Bergeron I'd like to sell you.
