He was brutal in limited action here. I distinctly remember a game vs. the Flames where they scored three goals in five minutes on Luongo because MAG couldn't cover the man in front of the net. He was at fault for all three goals.
It's a 2-way deal and he's shown he can be a great AHL point producer. It's not that he's without value, especially in if cast as the #8 guy on the depth chart.
Honestly I don't think he is going to amount to much of anything good in the american game. While I agree he is good in the AHL, I figured we would be hearing that he signed a contract in the KHL or Europe, due to his massive fear of contact. The guy will never be an NHL dman.
For a guy they got for nothing (Sulzer - free agent signing) that couldn't crack the Canucks lineup.
It happens. A player that doesn't work out & wasn't going to work out with a club gets dealt for a similiar player (from the Sabres POV - MAG).
And how is Hodgson's future prospects any better seeing as he's actually likely *dropped* further down the depth chart as a result of the Sabres 2012 draft selections. Another case of a team trading a player who might have a better chance with another team (eg., Kassian for the Canucks & Hodgson for the Sabres).
Dropped? With Roy gone and Ennis playing LW Hodgson is probably their best bet at C. If anything he's risen up the depths.
This horse is beat to death in this thread (which is the point of the interwebz for sure), but I just wanted to throw in that what really bothered me the most about MAG when he played for the Sabres was his attitude.
Always held himself blameless, tweeted a few times in French that he was getting screwed and should be on the ice more, not in the pressbox, etc. Was really pissy in social media when he got traded, etc.
Now, he's still a kid really, and he may grow up, but he did NOT endear himself to any Sabre fans, and likely to anyone in the organization here except for a few games in the playoffs.
2 way contract is spot on for him. He needs to address a litany of issues before he sees the NHL ice again.
