This probably doesn't need it's own thread, but I had no idea where to post it.
In 2003, the Rangers traded the rights to Mark Messier to the San Jose Sharks (never signed there). In return, the Rangers had received the Sharks 4th Round Pick in the 2004. Said pick ended up being 127th overall. Does it sound familiar? The pick in question was used to pick captain Ryan Callahan!

Sharks made that trade knowing Mess would resign in NY. They got a compensated 3rd out of it IIRC which is why they made a deal. Rangers basically got a free pick and it turns out to be our current captain. Not a bad deal.
So we got Mike Sauer from the Brian Leetch trade and Ryan Callahan from a trade involving Mark Messier. Pretty cool how those players are affecting the current team on and off the ice.
Awesome find. I thought they did the same thing for Richter and Leetch. Wasn't Leetch traded for Jusi Markkanen and then resigned with the Rangers? Richter went somewhere (Nashville, I believe??) and resigned with the Rangers.
