Not sure if this deserves its own topic, but Brandon Worley keeps mentioning how he thinks the CBA won't be completed in time for the NHL season. Is this just his opinion or is this becoming a consensus? All I keep hearing is how everything is fine from most media sources but he seems pretty convinced. What is the consensus out there for when this season will start?

Sceviour also signed.

With Bachman it's better to just give him what he wants in the 1 way now rather than letting it get to arb. If you didn't want him angling for the 1 way you shouldn't have replaced Raycroft with him last year.

Nobody, especially people on HF , knows anything about what is going to happen. DBD's stuff is doublespeak IMO, but some delay to the season could be on the horizon.

It's a game of chicken.

Both think they can use a stoppage as leverage to get what they want.

Have teams been laying off mass amounts of their staff? I remember with the last labor negotiations teams were laying off a lot of their office staff and it was around this time, and even earlier, that they were doing so.

Maybe that's an indication that they are either waiting until the last minute to make those moves or they have a good feeling that we'll have hockey this season.

@RenLavoieRDS Stars signs Maxime Fortunus. One year contract.
Two way deal obviously.

Honestly ... that's fantastic. It pushes Labrie or Coyle out of regular duty ... but let's be honest ... who cares. I really do like Labrie, but neither one of those guys has much of a shot at pushing out any of Dallas' NHL players or stud prospects.

Now you can role with Nemeth and Oleksiak playing with a veteran, established defender.

Oleksiak-Fortunus
Sloan-Nemeth
Benn-Labrie/Coyle

You've got a solid base of experience at forward and D now. I really expect big things from Texas, and I can't wait to pay for the AHL package this year.

If you're going to sit Fistric in favor of Rome then shouldn't you trade him? He's not going to gain much value as the 7th guy/healthy scratch. Wouldn't he be ideal to a team like Edmonton or NYI who has a young defense that's not overly physical?

I assume he and Rome will battle it out in camp but if they're not trading Robidas letting go of Fistric, who doesn't appear to be in the long term plans, for a pick or prospect right before the season starts may be the best value we get. Benn can be the #7, Dallas gets the best return it can for an asset they don't intend to keep, and it possibly opens up a spot for both Olesiak and Nemeth going forward.

They may intend on Rome playing over Fistric just like they intended on Pardy playing over Fistric but I suspect Fistric will prove himself to be better than Rome just as he did Pardy.

That's why I think there's a competition at camp to see which one earns the job. If Fistric wins, he plays. If Rome wins I think they move Fistric because he's got some value to someone in the league and Benn can sit in the pressbox just as easily.

The more defensive depth the better. Keep Fistric and Rome. Don't really trust Benn to step into regular NHL duty at the moment. And Oleksiak/Nemeth should be maturing in the AHL.

So it's 1AM and I just happened to stumble upon a pretty awkward fact. We'll be seeing Aaron Rome as #29 this season...

No kidding. We should let more time pass before we let go of the memory of Grant Marshall.

I miss Grant Marshall. Nystrom is a little like the modern version of him.

38 points for Larsen? As self-appointed "guy in charge of keeping Larsen expectations reasonable," it is my duty to tell you that 38 points is much too high.

Larsen 26 pts
Gogo 34 pts
Robidas 21 pts

Besides that, pretty good guesstimates I'd say.

Oh, and if you could tell me if 96 points will get us in the playoffs, that would be great.

Lou is PPG.
Benn is PPG+.
Goligoski rebounds on an above average PP.
I think Daley gets 1st pairing duties over Larsen and puts up career numbers.
Larsen improves marginally offensively, but considerably defensively.
Dillon will impress.
Fraser, Nemeth, and for some reason Glennie strike me as call-ups that would impress most.
No way either Lehtonen or Bachman regress.
And no way Razor allows Kari to get 4 shutouts.

EDIT: Yet apparently he got 4 last season.
Whoops.
