You probably have to look at teams who are either 1) rebuilding, 2) stacked on offense (but don't expect a defenseman back), or 3) in a position where they might not be able to sign a couple of guys.

If it's the first option then you probably can only expect players on the back half of their prime. Players who are still good, but won't be around for much more than 3-5 years, tops. I would have tossed out Calgary here, but I highly doubt they feel the need to offload anyone big enough to land Weber until well into the season. By then I think Weber has either signed a contract here, or has been dealt. I'm not really sure who would fit this at the moment, and most teams probably aren't either. Columbus maybe. This one is a tough one for summer trades because so many GMs will think their teams are going to be OK.

If it's the second option then you get some offense, but likely get no defense. Philly is a good example.

If it's the third option then it's a huge gamble. Poile could, and probably would be, placed in the same position just with different players.

I think our best bet if we're looking for a deal in the next month or two is the second option, but it leaves us pretty thin on D if no moves are made.

iirc, NTC's don't transfer with players when they're traded, they're only valid for the team that originally gave them. I know this came up previously on other forums, for example, Ballard had a NTC with Florida, but when traded to us, it was mentioned that he was free to be moved b/c the NTC doesn't carry.

It may be situation-specific, idk, but it's come up before.

It sounds like Poile is flying up next week to meet with Weber. Lets hope he can get the deal done and we can avoid the trade altogether.

I hope Poile takes a blank contract and says, "fill in the years and the dollars, and then tell me what team you want this contract with... if its us, cool, if its someone else, at least I can trade you with a negotiated contract... but either way do it now so I can get on with the rest of the summer"

I think it depends on how the contract is written...

If a player waives a clause to accept a trade to a new team, it is rare he will do so without a promise that the acquiring team will continue to honour the clause. Brad Richards, when traded from Tampa Bay to Dallas in 2007-08, is an example of this. However, if the player is traded before a clause has kicked in, that clause is automatically ruled void.

It should also be noted that clauses can only cover what would have otherwise been unrestricted free agency years.

CBA reference: Section 11.8 (a & b) (P. 48)

http://www.capgeek.com/faq/what-s-th...TC-and-NMC.php

Nevertheless, with regard to the players in question, Cobourn and JBo, they are still with the original teams with which they signed those NTC enabled contracts. So there would have been no incidence of any prior waving to put their NTC in jeopardy.

Any link to this announcement of Poile's travel plans?

HFB grapevine recently revealed, Weber is finally tying the knot this summer with Kelowna's Miss Bailey Munro.

Dual purpose trip for Poile with special "wedding gift" in hand?

It was announced on our radio station this morning so I don't have a link. Poile met with Weber's agent this week and was supposed to meet with Weber this weekend but Weber's charity golf tournament has postponed the meeting until sometime next week.

more like 13 or 14.

this is the last time those deals will be available. If Shea wants maximum lifetime cash he signs a deal with somebody before Sept 15

This doesn't confirm that he's physically flying up there, but confirms everything else.

I wouldn't trade Weber until he either held out with no contract or demanded a trade, until then, I'm trying to sign him.

For me, I have a timeframe in my head (not known to Weber yet) of July 31. As I've said, if he can't decide that he wants to commit to the franchise, the city, and the fans by then, then he doesn't want to be here nor does the franchise need to wait to move forward with whatever plan it needs to succeed.

Pretty much. I want him to be fully committed to the franchise. If there's even a glimmer of doubt in his mind that slows down the negotiation process to the point that they're still trying to figure something out in August, it's time to move on and, as sad as it is to say, look for potential deals

What would the Rangers have to add with Marc Staal just for fun? Honestly, after losing out on Suter, I hope you guys keep Weber.

Nashville is down both Weber and Suter. Frankly, if another team wants Weber I want their FIRST pairing back. Forward wise, Nashville is pretty good. I know it's ingrained into the Preds fans mindset like a groove in a well worn record, but there is ONE forward spot on the Preds that's open on the #1 PP, and #8 offensive unit. Sk will be re-signed, Wilson will be resigned, With Gaustad's re-signing, Smith will go to wing leaving one spot one.

Sk-Fisher-Erat
Wilson-Legwand-Halischuk (Who scored 15 goals with 4th line minutes)
Smith-Gaustad-Hornqvist
Bourque-Spaling-Yip
McG

Defensively we are looking at:

Klein-Blum
Gill-Ellis

Without Weber and Suter. Nashville is looking to sign 2 vets (Hannan, maybe?)

There is also a silly option of then trading Staal to CAR for Gleason and another asset.

Is Colin Wilson projected to be a second line center? Because for Staal and Stepan we need a decent second line center in return.
