IMO you just give him top pitchers money and move on and try to upgrade the team else where. He deserves it and you don't wan't to lose his talent long term.
I think they need to get this team healthy and see what happens next year. Having a healthy Utley and Howard for a full season will be a huge upgrade. What they have been missing since probably 2008 is someone who can get on base at the top of the order. Neither Victorino nor Rollins are that guy anymore. In actuality we probably should have move on from Rollins last year and fromVic this yea. I hate to say that because of everything they have done for this organization.
Pierre
Utley
Pence
Howard
Ruiz
Rollins
Brown?
If they could find a good top of the order guy thats a decent lineup
Hamels
Halladay
Lee
Worley
Thats a great staff. Just need everyone to get healthy and hungry for next year
Trade cole if he doesn't have a new contract before the deadline. They absolutely cannot afford to lose him for nothing. Trade him, get a top prospect or two and start rebuilding. Utley and howard should NOT be core players anymore either...they are both supporting players but should not be counted on to carry the team anymore. Anyone who watched the team the last three years should see this.
Considering our offense is in the top 5 in a ton of important offensive stats, I blame the pitching. It just hasn't been good enough. Sometimes the offense shows up, but more times than not the pitching blows it.
Even my optimism is waning right now, which is saying something. Team is just brutal to watch.

wat? the only stat the phils are top 5 in are hits. considering they aren't even top 10 in doubles, triples, or home runs it's a pretty meh stat.
I hate this bullpen. Schwimer, Savery, Sanches, Diekman, Bastardo. All of them scare me when they enter the game because there is a strong possibility that we might lose.
I think I mentioned this before, but what do you think about bringing Madson back next year to setup?
I would, but who knows what his thinking is. I'm sure he has his sights set on being a closer and I'm sure some of the small market teams will offer him that opportunity next year.
I met NL, my bad. AB - 1, Hits - 2, SB - 5, AVG - 3. I'm just saying there offense isn't terrible, not saying they're the 08 Phils, just saying.
to me anyway the most important stats for batting are OBP and OPS, phils are 9th in both(in the NL). I don't think we should sugar coat anything, the phils offense is average at best this year. The bullpen and pitching has not helped matters but this team is not even a top 5 offense in the NL imo...
I think Cole has his sights set on exploring the open market. I would be shocked if he signed before the offseason.
My thoughts exactly. I would imagine, even if the Phillies give him what he is asking for now, someone would pay more in the offseason. SELL SELL SELL!!!
I have mixed feelings about this. part of me wants them to sign him as he is future, the other part wants them to trade him and get a 3b and possibly a young outfielder for him. At this point, I dont see any reason for him signing (unless he really wants to stay here). If this happens you trade him and then in the offseason that deal will most likely be on the table and it could even be a little more, and try to sign him then.
