I'm sorry, but Kovalev's done some really great things in MTL. Sure, he was inconsistent, but he was on the scoresheet more often than not, the guy could skate around the best of em and he has magic ****ing hands.
Gomez has sucked donkey balls since he's joined the Habs, his first season was a lackluster and we can pretty much forget about what followed. ONly thing he's good for is comic relief and 7.3M cap hit is about 7.2M too much for comic relief.
He was doing the same thing as Gomez in his last days: Skating passed the blue line then stop then look around and most probably lose the puck. That's what I was referring to.
The difference between Kovalev and Gomez is that Kovalev knows how to play the game, he just often didn't care enough to play it the right way. In fact, on numerous occasions in his career, Kovalev proved to be an incredibly intelligent player when he put his mind to it. Gomez is just not a smart player, and never was.
Depending on the new CBA MTL should really buy him out and just eat half his salary for a few years. Getting rid of half of his cap hit would at least let them bring in a body that'll actually play. Lol
The amazing thing about Gomez is that he was done in ny. That sather found a way to get another team to bail him out of such an incredible mess is unbelievable. Him ball and chaining a division rival is the best thing for the rest of the NE. This thread is ridiculous.
uh no, gomez was tied for the most points in his last year in new york and he was their leading scorer with 5 points in 7 games during the playoffs. the gomez we see now brings absolutely nothing, his game has completely fallen off the map. From 60 point player to maybe a marginal 30 point guy.
Not even close, at least our overpaid guys can still go out on the ice stometimes.
Gomez + Galchenyuk
for
Komisarek + Kadri
There you go.
why the hell would we give up a potential franchise superstar center that we will have on our team for at least 8 pro years to save scott gomez's "cap hit" for 2 years? Kadri's a bust btw.
Maybe something like this? I still believe that Leino could turn it around though?! Only reason for Buffalo to do it is Leino has 4yrs left whereas Gomez has 2. Both bad contracts ofc. McCormick is in only for $$.
Leino has a much better chance of rebounding and actually playing up to his contract than Gomez does. Only + to that deal is that, if neither put up points, we'd get out of a wasted roster spot/bad contract a bit sooner.
Why don't we just stop making Gomez threads? I mean seriously, habs won't GIVE you something to take him. We won't. I'm sorry. If you're proposing a trade for Gomez, it's because you want Gomez, not because you're expecting habs to give you top prospects or extra picks, it won't happen. That being said, I don't expect anyone to actually WANT gomez and make a normal hockey deal for him and that's absolutely fine by me, just tired of people posting garbage. No, we won't get you a 1st rounder, a top prospect or some kind of consolation package, we'll just bury him if we want to, so get yourself informed or just stop commenting on the issue. It's really annoying now to see people have no clue.
Over time, Leafs fans have come to convince themselves that the Kessel trade was fair, so trading Gally for a bust to gain 3M of capspace is probably right in their logic.
nah it's cool, we'll keep Gomez. I wouldn't do the first one. Don't want Leino. Yes, better than Gomez right now, but Gomez contract ends in 2 years, we can wait, I don't want to deal with another stupid contract for more time. In 2 years it's over, that's it.
I wasn't offering leino anyways, just stating that right now leino has more value then Gomez. I think you actually missed the point of my post, which was to put up a model of what a deal would look like in the event that Gomez was traded, making a comparison to the deal that moved Ales Kotilik to Buffalo last year:
To Buffalo:
Robyn Regehr
Ales Kotilik
2nd Rd Pick (cgy)
To Calgary:
Butler
Byron
Pretty much the same sort of deal, in which you guys are getting a couple of project players for a player of some (not a TON) value, a pick, and a player of negative value. I think that is the only real way to move a bad contract these days....not by sending back another contract just as bad...otherwise what is the point of getting rid of him in the first place...or a trade for the sake of trades.
Again, I wasn't really making a proposal for him, just giving an example of what kind of deal you would see involving Gomez. Which is basically what the OP was asking for.
