On the other hand, Florida got bent over bad in the Luongo trade and the Nucks in the Ballard trade.

I always liked Luongo and hopes it works out for him.

Not to make this about Ballard, but until Howden proves to be a better _NHLer_, this trade is still very much in doubt.

Say what you want about Ballard, but I think he is still recognized as a player than can play in this league. Howden still has to prove that.

If the Turris situation didn't clue people into who actually dictates the _time_ of a trade, I'm not sure what will...
Different situation, by the deadline the season was nearly done. Rick Nash will not start a new season in Columbus, unless Howson really is as stupid and incompetent as he seems.

Gillis, however, is definitely not stupid. Luongo being a Canuck on opening night is pretty much impossible.

You should've seen Kobe vehemently demanding for a trade after the Lakers' disastrous end to the 2005-06 season. He even called out his teammates publicly and called one of them a useless piece of garbage. He went on to win two titles with the Lakers.

Kobe also publicly back tracked on those remarks. Again, there's a difference.

Impossible? Absurd. He's signed to a contract. These are professionals playing a game for money. Don't play game = no money.

Every reason I've heard for a forced Luongo deal has nothing to do with the actual facts of the situation. The most important of which is that Luongo is signed to a current contract by the Canucks. That's the bottom line here. Everything else about being bad for the room, he may sit out, he'll throw a hissy fit etc... Doesn't actually matter when faced with base facts.

On Rick Nash: The point is that he wanted out, and was _not_ let out. Deadline, New Season, whatever... all of it falls on deaf ears as soon as Howson shuts the door. Same thing happened to Turris. Whined, vocally wanted out, but Maloney made him render unto Ceasar. GMs run it all.

Point is, Kobe still showed up to camp ready to play. His situation was a LOT worse than Luongo's. He publicly wanted out of his team because he feels like they're not ready to contend. He's got **** relationship with quite a few of his teammates and made it 100% clear he wanted out. Luongo said he's ready to move on because Cory's ready to take over.

Of course, it would be best for Luongo to move on, but it won't be as tough and awkward to show up at camp because he's got great relationships with his teammates. It's not he said **** like "**** Booth, trade that useless piece of crap" or "Wellwood showed up to camp overweight again".

It does happen. And it will happen in this situation if Gillis isn't able to get something resembling fair value for Luongo.

Edmonton - Vancouver

Not a fan of either team, but a buddy of mine suggested this at the bar last night and I wanted to gauge peoples' opinion of this.

To Edmonton:
Roberto Luongo

To Vancouver:
Taylor Hall

Thoughts? Who adds and how much?

Curious for both EDM and VAN fans opinions but also other fans, as this seems like a pretty fair trade IMO.

Hall is the greatest thing since sliced bread and ketchup!!! Not necessarily put together because that is kind of gross but separately - both are delicious!

To compare him to the grease that is Bluongo makes me sick to my ketchup filled stomach and if I throw up a bunch of ketchup over this post... so help me

EDM fans would want more, just because Hall was drafted 1st overall. I'm not a big fan of Hall, I think EDM has better young players.

Canucks wish someone would over pay for that contract.

I would like to get Luongo but not at the price of one of the big four.

Counter:

To Van - PRV, 2013 1st, 2014 1st, maybe a middle prospect

To EDM - Luongo

Van clears cap space to trade for a Nash or a D.

EDM gives up some future to prove they want to win now.

I'm actually pretty tempted. Which prospect did you have in mind? Preferably a LW or RD, as those are our areas of weakness in our prospect pool.

What part of a rebuild involves giving up some of the future? Are the Oilers, coming off three straight first overall picks, in the position where trading that package is advisable? Especially trading it for Roberto Luongo, of all people? If Luongo was worth a top prospect and multiple first round picks do you think he'd still be a Canuck? That contract is gross, in any case.

The Canucks wouldn't make a trade that would improve the Oilers by that margin.

An Oilers fan offered 2 1sts, PRV, and a mid prospect for Luongo.

I would probably do it. Potentially 2 top 10 picks?

I honestly don't know why people on a forum try to outbluff each other. It's ridiculous.

Anybody with a shred of common sense know Lu wants to leave, or Gillis wants him traded.

He'll be gone before the season starts.
