They don't play that many 3 in 3's in the AHL any more. Last year Rochester played 9 so if you give him a game off in each, that's still 67 GP. [EDIT: I think 70+ is a perfectly legitimate expectation for him).

You just got at why I prefer the junior/NCAA route but if he's going to Rochester, I'd rather see him start in a position that he can move up from than starting in a high impact role. Let him build up to it, if he's really this exceptional then 10-12 games as a 3rd line center won't hinder his development. And I don't see any point in playing him at unless he struggles at C, first.

wonderful news. If after camp they feel he still needs a little seasoning, i'm confident Rolston can get it out of him in ROchester, but I really wont be surprised if he sticks and Grigorenko is the one where a tough decision will need to be made (9 game tryout)

There you have it. Banger + playmaker + sniper three line set up that Lindy wants. Sort out the bottom line however you please, this will be the top 9 going into training camp.

Bro, settle down. Not even Foligno who dominated this camp last season started in the NHL to start the season. He will be playing in Rochester to start. No way we are going into the season with our top 3 centers being 22, 22, and 18.

Based on the roster. The roster right now is set up for Girgensons to start day 1.

Although, is Girgs a center or a Left wing? That will change a lot. Is Ott a center or a Left Wing? Still a lot to be decided.

I don't see that at all. Also, the roster is not set.

Fine by me.

If he can't cut it they can always send him back to juniors, right?

Girgs style would be perfect for our third line now but ya that's a tough jump. Hope he can still develop fully on both d and o. Loving that we got the Latvian Locomotive.
Question for everyone, who was the last Latvian Sabre?

Seems perfectly reasonable to disagree to me.

I'm excited. I'm not sure what to think because we don't know where he'll be playing or in what capacity, but I'm excited because this shows again that the Sabres brass are in a position to make moves that they feel are best for the team. Getting a guy like that, just recently drafted, signed to a contract after a very impressive camp showing? Good deal.

Bank on Grigs starting sooner than later as well. This is the playbook (Penguins) I believe we will be using moving forward...and it's the course I prefer especially considering the success it has had...

crosby = 19
malkin = 20
staal = 18
fleury = 18

What level league did Zubrus come out of when he was drafted and went right to the NHL?

Are there any parallels to the Girgs situation?

But how can you compare Crosby and Malkin to Girgensons? You just cant,difference in skill is obvious.

I thought Ennis/Hodgson were supposed to be Crosby/Malkin in our scenario

It's too bad that our roster opening isn't more for winger than center as if he were to start in the NHL, winger would be easier on the kid. I don't doubt that he could play in the NHL off the bat. Not saying he could, would, or should, but I really don't doubt it. For all the arguments against the AHL route, one obvious positive is that it means he could play in the NHL this season without having to make the team out of camp.

Looks like he played in 2 different Junior A leagues his draft year. Metro Junior A Hockey League (finished with) and Central Canada Hockey League (started with).

The previous (only) Latvian that has ever played for Sabres is goalie Pēteris Skudra, who hit the ice for a one single game back in 2000-01.
