Exactly, I don't know why any team would pony up 7.5 for the guy. Great leader and fierce competitor, but nowhere near worth 7.5 for 4. Please don't let it be us...

Thank you, I needed that.

7.5 for 4? Something tells me this isn't a playoff team, which would be the only kind of team Doan would leave Phoenix for IMO.

If he does leave PHX, I would prefer him in the East.

The thought of him on Van or SJ scares me if the Kings don't get him.

That team would be cap-stranded for years.

It would be such a Shane, Doan you agree?

Doan to me seems like he wouldn't mind retiring with a fat cheque on a non-playoff team despite being a warrior, etc.

All of the usual considerations kind of fly out the window when somebody offers you retard money.

You never go full retard.

If that offer if true - and Doan winds up taking it - that contract will cost somebody their job.

You know, if it is the Sabres, and it may very well be, I wouldn't be totally against it. $7.5M is a lot of money, but you're not just paying for 20 goals and grit, you're paying for a lot of other factors, most notably being the leadership. Ever since Drury and Briere left in 2007 we haven't had any real leadership on this team and someone who would truly hold people accountable in the locker room.

Our radio station WGR 550 today, who I don't always agree with, were spot on in their assessment that we have a lot of younger kids playing here with nobody to truly set an example, and how when you have a young core of guys like Ennis/Myers/Foligno/Girgensons/Hodgson/Grigorenko/Armia etc. you absolutely want a grown man and a respected veteran in the game to lead by example and to teach these kids about the game. I'm sorry but a guy like Pominville doesn't strike me as the type of captain that wouldn't take **** from nobody and hold people accountable for their play on the ice. It's been an embarrassing revolving door of guys coming in and out of the captain and assistant captain roles that we need some stability for a change.

An extra $20M or so guaranteed is a lot of money.

Gambo could have got that info from Doan's agent who is just floating crap out there to increase the offers. I am one of the biggest Shane Doan fans around but I really find it highly likely that offer is on the table.

Every year there's at least one player signed to a ridiculous contract.

And they often get vilified. Depends on whether you would care about that considering the amount you'd be getting paid.

It's probably a team that wasn't on his original 'list' trying to get his attention. Or someone with cap to burn (though that wouldn't explain the length).

My first thought when I hear ridiculous offer to veteran free agent is obviously Sather, but it seems more likely that it's a team struggling to reach the floor.

if i ran long island id offer;

4 years at 5 million per year. a straight 5 million, no frontload or backload.
bonus of 1.25 million per season if he scores 60 points,
bonus of 1.25 million per season if he scores 180 hits.

if all bonus money is collected.....its 30 million over 4 years.

( 60 points and 180 hits are what he averaged over the last 4 years )

Smells like a move only Glen Sather would make, but I'm willing to bet it's a team like the Panthers or the Islanders, maybe the Hurricanes. Teams down at the floor.
