Kyle Palmieri to Pittsburgh

What would it take? Assuming Ryan is traded for 2-3 quality NHL ready pieces at forward and Palmieri becomes expendable.

Despres/Palmieri swap?

Palmieri is significantly better than Depres, doubt Anaheim does it.

No reason to do this.

Zero reason for the Ducks to consider moving him...especially for Depres.

If the Ducks move Ryan I think the chances of Palmieri moving actually go down. They're gonna need wingers.

Doesn't make sense for either team. Both are NHL ready and both fill needs for their team.

Bylsma just talked about putting Despres with Letang. lol

The Ducks have got a ton of defensive depth and have plenty of good young defensemen at the moment, the only way Palmieri is moved is in a package for a #2 centre.

#2C, a winger and prospect for ryan. I don't thing penguins have these assets.
It would need to start with Sutter.

Not a chance we give up Despres for Palmieri, maybe for Etem but never for Palmieri unless the Ducks add.

Not against targeting forward prospects for defense ones with orgs having their strength just the other way around, but Despres should be on the Pens roster somewhere come October. If it was about Weber, I might rethink that.

Noone, but at least this is slightly better than when he demanded that return for Palmieri before editing.

Idk about you but I think I'd rather have the kid who was ripping up the A as opposed to the one who was ripping up teenagers.

I think a Despres palmieri swap is pretty fair value wise but only solves one teams needs

Oh come on, I have tried my level best to stay out of most Ryan proposals, because I love me my center depth and am not willing to trade the little Sutterfly, but you are really not getting him for anyone short of that. Center depth is where it is at!

I hate these stupid our prospects are better than your prospects debates. But why are Duck fans so sure Palmieri is so much better than Despres?

Ryan gets moved for a couple of lesser top 9 wingers and possibly a high end future. Ducks blue line could use another top 4 fixture for the future. Allen, Souray and Lydman are short term solutions and are more 4/5 options. Despres can anchor a second pairing in the very near future, he's been mentioned as a fit with Letang by the Pens brass.

That's my logic behind the proposal. Fair enough though.

I think there's one post in this thread from a Ducks fan that would imply thinking that way. Some from other teams. Most Ducks fans just said that there's more of a need for Palmieri, which is really true given our depth, roster- as well as farm-wise.

Personally, I don't think it's bad, value-wise, and I can understand your reasoning for the appeal to the Ducks, as well. That said, our top-4 going forward will almost unquestionably have Fowler and Sbisa on it. Plus Vatanen and/or Lindholm in the not too distant future. Just one of those would make it three very young guys for a top-4. You can really never have too much depth with good young defensemen, but in this case, I think it would make sense for us to distribute our youth a little more.

Not wanting to deal Palmieri is fine, but the comments knocking Despres in here are hilarious.

Stick around kids.

That's fair. I'd say it would come down to the return you get for Ryan and if your GM views Despres as an upgrade over what you have in the pipeline.

I just think Palmieri would be perfect for us. Speedy, gritty and a right handed goal scorer who can step into our top 6 immediately.
