From what I remember, didn't MacLean have heart issues (like a murmur or something) when he was drafted? Could this be related?

How much signing bonus money did he earn? I know he didn't get a whole lot in the way of NHL money but i really hope he's got himself a nice little nest egg set aside.

Looks like he's earned about 500kay in the last four years and he's only 23. He should definitely have enough money and time to do whatever he wants. Pick any school, study anything full time, concentrate completely on school and still be young enough to enter the workforce in a normal way. Definitely will have amazing interview answers.

Of course I hope he can continue with hockey, but nice to know he should be okay if he has to live in the real world.

It's crazy how quickly things can change. Make sure you don't take life for granted and always make time for things you enjoy

I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like an electrolyte imbalance or something in his body overloaded and like a breaker panel in our homes, he blew a breaker and his heart just stopped.

Again... Thankfully the people on scene knew what to do or we could be talking about a whole different outcome.
Thanks for the update..

Good to hear he's home and feeling better.

This is probably strange to ask but, is he allowed to accept his QO now? Or would it even make any sort of difference?

Brett MacLean's heart might have taken him out of hockey, but he just couldn't take hockey out of his heart.

MacLean, a former NHLer whose career was cut short by a sudden cardiac arrest just under a year ago, will start the next chapter of his hockey life behind the bench of the Waterloo Warriors men's hockey team as an assistant coach, beginning this September.
Good see he hasn't given up on hockey completly and hopefully this is the path that gets him back into the NHL, should he want to be back in the league and the league wants him back of course.

Better that he discovered it early and bowed out, than to stay and have a Zholtok/Cherepanov/Fischer type situation.
