Blake Geoffrion

Does this guy have what it takes to make the club next year? Looks like he might be a 4th liner but wasn't he once the go to guy in college?

I feel bad for the guy, he's a nice kid, but there's no room for him. Not good enough to be a top 9, not gritty enough to be on the 4th line...

He has above average talent for a 4th liner, but he needs to work on his skating. He has no acceleration. Once he improves it, he has a place on the team.

I just feel for him, if it wasn't the name he'll be a career minor leaguer like that prospect from edmonton a few years ago I forgot his name. Marc-Antoine Pouliot Rob Schremp

I was on his twitter page like 2 days ago and he has a background with a big ass Habs logo, you can see how proud he is to be a Canadien. It sucks that there's no room.

Give him power skating lesson. Only way. Rest of the play is great. Just need some speed.

He looked very promising in his first stint in the NHL. Preds fans were really high on him. He was really killing it in Hamilton last season too.

13th forward. Don't see him as anything more than a fourth liner unless his skating improves a whole lot.

Geoffrion is simply a product of Gauthier's trickery and methods for taking fans as gullible fools. Enough said.

Well keep in mind he grew up around Nashville so they may be a bit biased on that matter.

I'm very hopeful we shows up to camp on a mission. Really like his attitude and the legacy is pretty neat too.

No skill goal there, just luck and work around and in front of the net. Really need to learn how to skate better though, but could become a PP specialist ala Holmstrom, got the size and determination for that. (And no, I'm not saying he'll become Holmstrom... )

Waivers?

Can Geoffrion ride the Bulldogs shuttle this coming year or is he subject to waivers if sent down?

I can see him in the NHL next year as the 13th/14th forward (with Nokelainen). There are always plenty of injuries and he is the perfect player to fill a role on the 4th or 3rd line. A lot more than Leblanc or Palushaj

I would think he'll see some games with the Habs next season. He was a standout player in the NCAA, struggled his Freshman year but then broke out the next season as 2nd year player, only Kyle Turris had more points then him. His Senior year was a big one though as he got the Hobey Baker award for the top college player even though he wasn't even the top scorer on his team (Derek Stepan had 4 more pts)

Plus he looked good in Hamilton last year. Not sure what his NHL upside is, he'll turn 25 mid season so this is a big year for him to work on things as the following season he'll have to clear waivers, so hopefully he can get things going as perhaps he could turn into a solid bottom 6 for us in time.

He doesn't have to clear waivers this season until he plays in 3 NHL games.

I agree. What I see there is a clever guy hungry for garbage goals. he has what it takes to make the team. I have a firm belief that he could score 15 with no plaiying time.

If not for the last name he wouldn't even be talked about here. They gave him a chance in a season that was in the tank way before close to the end. The kid is nice and all but he shouldn't be anywhere near the pros.

Seems to me that this is a player with clearly defined problems. One, he needs
to improve his skating. Especially his first couple of strides. Secondly, he would really
galn from some more strength. So a little of MaxPac's explosiveness training would
really help in both cases.
Therefore, the good news is, that with moderate improvments in these areas he
could be a nice player for us. I think he brings enough other qualities, that he only
needs a little improvement physicaly to be an NHL player. It seems to me he has
the personality to be a good third line type. That is hard working, smart about the
game, and a good teammate for "star" type players.
The bad news is, that the qualities he needs to improve on are physical, so they
cannot be solved by suddenly "getting it". And at 25 he probably has known this, and
worked on it, for years. So he may already be near his potential.
I'm hoping that the Habs have put him on a new, and better training regemin.
And then, if there is a strike/lock-out, he would have an even better chance to
build on his weaknesses before his next shot at the NHL.

The name helps but he has a very solid resume to back it up.

He had good numbers in the NCAA. Had overall solid numbers in the AHL. And his first stint in the NHL was pretty good.

He has flaws that are holding him back for sure. But I don't think it's too late for him... yet. He needs to put it all together this season though. Either destroy the AHL and get a call-up, or have a great camp and grab a spot on the fourth line. But that's only the first part. Once that's done, he needs to prove he has what it takes to stick in the NHL.

If he ends up playing on a fourth line, he'll have to make his way up. Meaning, he'll have to adapt his game to a more "grinding" role and show he takes his career seriously. If he does that, he'll rack up some point but most of all, he'll gain the trust of his coach and when the time will come, he'll get a shot at playing with Eller, Plekanec or Desharnais (a real offensive role). That's when he really needs to grab the opportunity and show he's a keeper.

Won't be an easy road for Geoffrion. But I sincerely believe he has what it takes. He also is going to have to battle Palushaj who is in a very similar situation.
