Definitely agree with both you guys on Joke-inen. The guy has been on so many NHL teams in his career. Nobody wants to guy, way too many red flags. Glad he's off the market early so we're not tempted.

Saw this on PD this AM ... re: CBA Negotiations

1. Reduce players' hockey-related revenues to 46% from 57 %.
2. 10 seasons in the NHL before being eligible for unrestricted free agency.
3. Contracts limited to 5 years.
4. No more salary arbitration.
5. Entry-level contract are 5 years long instead of 3.

This'll more likely happen

1. 51 %
2. may get 7 or 8 years on that
3. 4
4. salary arbitration will still be part of the cab
5. 4

just as long as it isn't a full lost season ... Still don't understand why the owners gave up the controlled contracts of 10 years

This is just the owners staking out their position. The players' initial proposal is likely just as bad.

They'll get something done. There's too much money left on the table if they don't.

If the players give up money they will not give up on the other issues and in fact will probably get mor favorable deals on the other items.

I don't think the % will go down by more than 5%.

Contractt length will max at 7 yrts.

Ufa status will be no more restricive than it is now and possibly more lenient.

And ELC pof 4 yrs hurts the occasional superstar but helps a lot of kids who wash out after their ELC so that might get approved.

And in exchange for taking less money the players will probably want a smaller gap between the floor and the cap and more revenue sharing to get more teams spending to the cap

Next year's 1st. We also sent a 3rd round pick (that comes back if NYR makes the Cup finals) and a defenseman who was laughingly described as an "AHLer" in early discussions, but in practice can barely stick on our ECHL team and was traded just so we wouldn't go over the 50-contract limit. (And if he is AHL level in New York, then suddenly I feel even more bullish about our blueline depth...)

The popular spin is that when they were being counted on in New York, Anisimov and Dubinsky combined scored about 100 points. Which means there's at least a teensy tiny bit of hope for next season, because we sure as hell are going to be leaning on them a lot - the only guy on our team left who scored 20 goals (not "or more", just 20 goals) last year is RJ Umberger.

I'm just kinda hoping we can turn and deal Erixon for something nifty and valuable. Rangers fans reached a new low with me by showing up and telling us "no, no, you got a good guy; he just couldn't make the top-4 here". Never mind that he wouldn't make it up here, either, or that we already had one spot available for three different kids of similar pedigree. It takes real talent to make people feel worse like that.

This is why I hated the 5 years/$5 per contract the Thrashers signed him for. It wasn't the money, it was the term. No way he stays motivated/fit for four more years.

According to the NY Post, Vanderbeek (Devils) has only half of what he promised creditors ($40 mil) by Aug. 14th. Not good.

*Drags soapbox from corner* Here I thought teams north of VA were cash making machines with a billion fans and any team in the south, and Columbus, should be contracted because all we do is lose money. But lets not mention the troubles of the Devils and Islanders, because they have "history".

*Puts the box away*

Wait, you mean we're not in the south?

Honestly, I make an effort to be easy on the Isles and Devils, simply because their fans are going through the same sort of garbage we've all gone through. It does make the geography claims particularly egregious, but frankly it became obvious that that was simply bullheaded idiocy as soon as folks started reacting with surprise whenever we (Jackets fans) started helpfully informing folks that we're actually within 150-200km of the Canadian border.

There may still be bigots out there who think losing Atlanta wasn't a big deal because "the Blue Jackets are still there; they didn't deserve two teams anyways"
