Trade Proposals: July-August

Yes its probably not going to happen. Yes I will get unwarranted assaults on the proposal. All I am thinking here is to think outside the box. Our number 1 issue is scoring, why not take a chance on a guy like Thomas Vanek. Of course this depends on if Sabres are willing to make a deal, and save some money by taking dubys cap hit saving them 2.9 million, they are also stuck with bad cap hits of Erhoff and Leino. Once again just a proposal in a boring off-season for the rangers. Vanek has scored 40+ twice and 30 + twice in a 7 a year career

Ehrhoff at 4M$ a year (cap-hit) is so ****ing great. But you'd have no idea, since all you've done (guessing) is read PuckDaddy and his loathing for anything Buffalo.

Obviously this depends on what the "+" is from Buffalo's perspective, but since we are in the midst of an apparent culture change, I'm not slamming the phone down until I hear the full offer. That should say something.

I wouldn't mind seeing this trade actually. The only concern I have is that Vanek doesn't fit Tort's system at all. But that might be a good thing.

Yes please. Same production as Nash without the long-term commitment.

Vanek actually fits what this team needs more than Nash does. The difference is that Sather wants Nash.

I've always liked Vanek. But he's been overpaid the last few years too. I mean 7M+ for a guy who has averaged under 30 goals the last 3 seasons? And then there's the fact that he's a UFA in two summers.

And difference is Vanek isnt being moved. And if he is he would cost just as much as Nash.

Why are people including Erixon in trade proposals? What GM in their right mind is going to want a player who refused to sign with his drafted team so he would be traded to the team he wanted?

I would hope so considering its robbery.

3rd liner, prospect who may or may not ever make the nhl, 2nd round pick, and a useless 3rd for a young potential top 10 goal scorer in the league? Im sure buffalo would love that return.

Vanek is a good player but imo he's like Nash. I dont think he's there every night. At the end of the year he'll score you the 30+ goals but is he gona be invisible some nights? At least he has more playoff experience

CKL889 - excellent point. We should include him in a package back to Calgary.

He's signed, and if that same team trades him well now he doesn't have much of a choice does he?

Dubi Thomas Del Zotto to Sabres

Vanek Foligno and McNabb to NYR

Rangers get more scoring and depth up front and a rugged dman to replace injured Sauer...

He can refuse to report. He likely woulnt do that but why would a gm take the risk on a risky player. They would want someone like mclirath over Tim, imo.

People include Erixon because he's not as homegrown as some of the other guys/isn't fully established, isn't going to be overpowering at any one aspect of the game, and it's pretty much a given he'll be a decent to good player so they're using him as a warm body in these proposals.

Vanek would cost a lot more than Dubi + a pick. Reiger would want Stepan, a first, MDZ, and probably two of McLIrath, Miller, Fast, St. Croix.

That gets a heeeelllll no.

You don't watch Vanek play very often if you think that's "robbery." My offer is a starting point. You can add to it. Switch out the prospect. Add a higher pick. Add a second tier prospect defenseman or a back end defenseman from our team. I think Thomas will start in the AHL and have a breakout year at the Pro level pushing for a call up this season. His shot is that good.

Miller, Erixon, McIlrath would not be included imo.

No reason to expand it. Keep it simple.

I'd love for the rangers to publicly show interest in Vanek and put pressure on Howson to cave.

Robbery? Perhaps. But perhaps Buffalo doesn't want to spend 7.1M this year and next on a guy who might not score 30 goals. Look at Vanek's first 4 years and last 3 years...that's a mighty big difference. And sure, they've got him locked up for two more years...but do we have any idea if he's looking to re-sign there? Could they get more for him if they wanted to move him? Probably. But let's not make it sound as if Vanek has been a great player the last few years...because that's certainly not the case when you consider what he costs.

I wouldnt mind seeing Stafford in a Rangers jersey either. Only 26. Just one question, has he ever played LW?

Im going more on how much buffalo views vanek, probably a lot higher then we do, as most teams view their players higher. Hes been hit or miss a lot over the last two years, but that doesnt take much away of how good a goal scorer he can still be.

I would take Nash over Vanek 10 times out of 10.

Unfortunately a GM cannot publicly show interest in another player who is already under contract. That's illegal in sports. The GM of Buffalo would have to give permission for this to happen
Even if it wasn't I don't think Howson would give a s***.
