Modano would consider playing for Minnesota

Quote:
Modano to Wild? He'd consider
Mike Modano announced his retirement last summer, but the former Minnesota North Star told radio host Josh Rimer that he'd listen if the Minnesota Wild asked him to return to the NHL.

If the Wild contacted me Id listen to what they would have to say, certainly would be a fitting ending to a career obviously going back to Minnesota and what that town and what the fans meant to me, Modano said. To play with those guys (Zach Parise/Ryan Suter) and play in front of the fans again back where it started would be pretty unique.

Nobody is exactly sure how serious Modano was about the claim. The former first-overall pick finished his career with 1,374 points in 1,499 games between the North Stars, Dallas Stars and Detroit Red Wings.

Is everyone coming back, now?

How long until Bure comes back?

Wild's capspace is only $776,133! I would like to see Mike back in action ... time will tell.

players realize that there is money beeing thrown out. Good idea to try to get some of that.

They don't have the spice to sign him. Would be interesting to see it though.

Playing for the Wild would be like sending us a love letter after going to Detroit.

Anyway, Modano says a lot of things. I wouldn't take it all that seriously.

Modano talks too much. He should have retired before coming to Detroit.

Like I said when he went to the Wings, Modano's earned the right to choose when to quit. He did that. It's time to lace 'em up for good now, Mo, as much as I would love seeing him back with a Minnesota jersey on.

I mean he wouldn't be a difference maker anyway, I mean, it would be "cool" etc..but at the end of the day he would just have stolen a younger guy the chance to develop. And because he is not good enough anymore, i would not even sign him for minimum.

I mean as a assistant coach or youth coordinator - sure.

He doesn't have to curry the team they should at least give him the thyme of day.

Even if he'd consider it, the Wild would slam the door in his face. They were only interested in him a couple years ago. He chose the Wings. The Wild are not going to give their last one or two remaining contracts to a guy who retired a year ago. That is NOT the direction they're going. As Russo said, it's not happening.

Besides, I heard he was a farmer.

I'd say that pretty much settles it, because that is nowhere near enough to feed his dog.

I never understood why he didn't go to Minnesota instead of Detroit.

I know he probably wanted a Cup, but he would have left much more of a legacy as the only player to play for both Minnesota teams than joining a contender to win a cup at the end of his career (a la Payton and Malone).

Unfortunately, he'd only consider returning to the North Stars, not the Wild. Awww...

He is retired. He will stay retired. Cheers.

It'd be awesome to see him back for one last run back in Minny. I hope Fletcher gives him a try-out.

Player wants to return to NHL with a team he is not known for.

HF: What a a-hole. He is going to ruin his legacy!

Based on his quotes and twitter, I highly doubt he's in physical shape for another NHL season.

It would be cool to see Modano play in Minnesota one more time.
