Yet the Penguins still finished last. You know what Kovalev and Jagr have in common? They were both sold for cash. Now that's tanking.

He's going to be good, still can't believe he fell so far. I didn't think he'd get past the Leafs.

So, is it allowed for a contract to be signed now but not begin until 13-14 like caley said? I just find that odd.

It slides, same as it would for a CHLer. It'd be worded as a valid 2012-2013 contract but since he won't play in the NHL this year it'll just not kick in for another year.

He'll get his 92,5k signing bonus for the first year of the contract right away, and the Caps avoid the possibility of a Tim Erixon situation, otherwise there's no point in signing him right now, really.

Good for him, hopefully, he'll start being an impact player at the SEL-2 level before he's labeled the most NHL-ready player and yada-yada.

He passes the eye test in the videos I've seen of him. He looks incredibly skilled.

Still not sure about taking Pouliot over him but Shero seems to have a philosophy of loading up on D-Men in the draft, keeping the ones he likes most and flipping the other ones ala Whitney, Goligoski for guys like Kunitz, Neal, Niskanen, etc. It works so I can't complain too much.

I also remember being excited by the Espo pick and he busted big time and being kind of disappointed with the Morrow and Harrington picks and they look fantastic in hindsight. I guess you never really know until you get these kids in your system for a year or two. Worst part is that Forsberg went to Washington. That will make it sting way worse if he pans out and Pouliot doesn't.

I have visions of Fors tearing it up on his ELC for the Caps while Pouliot is 8th on the Pens depth chart and playing in the AHL.

No. He was the 3rd rated skate in the draft who fell to 11th. THAT is what would make him the steal of the draft if he pans out.

Ragamuffin et al.. That is the funnest part of the draft looking backwards. How many GM's passed on player A for player b and how big of mistake was that.

Whether or not Puoliot is better is irrelevant... Pittsburgh has a log jam of D-men in their prospect pool... no way Puoliot sees the NHL for at least 3-4 years.

It's not uncommon to see draft picks proclaimed "steals" if they dropped a significant amount of spots from their projected draft pick. If this kid ends up being the 2nd or 3rd most valuable player from the draft, doesn't getting him after 10 teams chose not to count as a "steal?"

You can just tell this kid has "it", whatever "it" is. Seems like a pretty good bet to be an excellent NHL player.

If Yakupov fell to 3rd pick, he would be a steal. Just like Forsberg, who all had him as one of the best forwards in the draft, dropped what 8 spots? That's a steal.

Who took Djurgardens spot in the SEL? Was it Leksands?

Edit: nevermind, it was Rogle.

You know each team has a different list. We're saying the word "steal" because of Bob Mackenzie ranking or NHL's, which isn't the other ten teams rankings before Washington.

I like Forsberg, during the draft knowing the Sabres were getting either him or Grigorenko made me jump for joy, both of them are going to be perennial PPG all-star players. Those 2 and Yakupov will be the 3 best forwards from the draft.
