2012 Minnesota #1 Prospect

It's that time of the year where prospect camp is in our rear view mirror and there's nothing to do besides speculate before September. So for the third straight year, lets get the HF Wild Prospect Rankings

Here is what we ended up with last summer:
1. Mikael Granlund
2. Charlie Coyle
3. Jonas Brodin
4. Marco Scandella
5. Jason Zucker
6. Matt Hackett
7. Zack Phillips
8. Johan Larsson
9. Jared Spurgeon
10. Colton Gillies
11. Brett Bulmer
12. Mario Lucia
13. Tyler Cuma
14. Darcy Kuemper
15. Casey Wellman
16. Cody Almond
17. Erik Haula
18. Nate Prosser
19. Justin Falk
20. Johan Gustafsson

(And in case you wondered what 2010 looked like, check it out here. Things have changed quite a bit since then.)

Change is an ongoing theme with the prospect pool and this year is no different. Some of the bigger names from the past few seasons like Marco Scandella, Jared Sprugeon, Justin Falk and (technically) Colton Gillies have finally graduated according to how HF defines a prospect. In their place is the newest draft class, players who have taken the next step in their development and even traded assets like Steven Kampfer.

As far as the poll choices go, I took the top-10 eligible prospects from last year's list, the top three 2012 draft picks (Mathew Dumba, Raphael Bussieres and John Draeger) and Kampfer. There is an "other" selection as well so if you have a prospect or player (Nate Prosser is still eligible) who you believe is worthy of consideration, go for it - just say it in the comments so I know.

Same thing goes for rookie users who can't vote in polls and want their voice heard.

This poll will be open for 48 hours, at which time the #2 poll will be posted (and so on) until there is a top 20.

Granlund, obviously, but also a prediction...

Graovac will be the biggest riser this summer, from unranked to probably around #12.

Granlund. Figure this will be a landslide.

Based on the extremely small sample sizes that were the Wild Prospect Development Camp scrimmages, I'll throw Daniel Gunnarsson's name into the ring.

Not saying he's amazing, but I could see him sneaking in at #9.

Provided all goes well this year, next year's #1 is being titled "Who succeeds Mikael Granlund's reign of prospect awesomeness?"

Voted for Granlund. I also expect Brodin taking #2 in the rankings for this year.

sticking with my homeboy Brodin as the best prospect, everyone is ok with riding's granlunds pine but i think Brodin is better.

The method for breaking ties wasn't included in the long introduction but going back to last year it is the following:

1. If two or more prospects are tied when rookie user votes are included, the one who has more votes without rookie user votes advances.

2. If they are still tied, whichever prospect poll creator GopherState voted for loses his vote and the other is named the winner.

3. If GopherState voted for someone other than the tied prospects, he thereby changes his vote to one of the two to get a winner.

Cuma, Gillies, Wellman, Almond and Prosser ahead of Bulmer, Larsson and Zucker... we're smart.

I voted for that one Finnish kid. The one that's not Haula. Can't remember his name because nobody ever talks about him.

I was coming to post "well I see TP started things off with a bang." At least it makes the decision for the first 5 or so votes easy for you.

It'll be interesting to see when Hackett reaches critical mass. I think he goes 5th when people start to split between Larsson, Zucker, and Phillips.

You do realize Mikko Lehtonen can't be considered a kid anymore?
