This is how i have it right now:
Cambell Kuba
Jovo Gudbranson
Kuli Weaver
Ellerby and Strachan odd men out (i prefer ellerby as our seventh)
Something has to give! We've got 1.5 defensemen too many. If one one is traded, the only thing I can see is Strachan starting off the year in the AHL and eventually moving up once someone is injured or traded. Also, I don't think Kuli will be put on the 3rd pairing. I'd rather see
Campbell Kuba
Kulikov Gudbranson
Jovanovski Weaver
Ellerby
I don't think a trade is necessary. Tallon knows how important depth is, and Dineen certainly appreciates having capable bodies around. We don't really know what we have in Ellerby yet, so we may as well let him prove himself a little more this year (if anything to improve his trade value in the future)
Bobby Ryan scored 57 points in 82 games last year. Kris Versteeg scored 54 points in 71 games last year. No sense in that trade.
Sure, Bobby Ryan has a better track record of an elite scorer, but put Versteeg on a line with Getzlaf and Perry and he's probably a point per game player.
It's a tough one, I think it's too much for Bobby Ryan IMO. I would do Versteeg + Howden for Ryan. I think Bobby Ryan is overrated like Clint said, you have him on a line with two top scoring guys in the league. I think him and Versteeg would put equal numbers here.

Makes zero sense to put Versteeg in a trade for Ryan. We need to add offense, not offset it. We need to be using our glut of defensemen and defensive prospects to add offense.

The sense it makes is we're giving up a 2nd liner for a 1st liner. I'd like to keep Steeger, but Ryan is a better offensive guy with a lot more potential. Anaheim would probably want some offense back. Hopefully there would be another solution.
I'd much rather trade Gudbranson than Kulikov. I'd put Huberdeau and Kulikov as the only 2 untouchables in the organization. I'd also consider putting Bjugstad on that list too. I think Kulikov is going to be an all-star Dman for the next 10 years starting in a year or two. I see him putting up 50+ points consistently. If he can improve his shot ala Garrison, he'd be even more dangerous. I'd be extremely hesitant to trade Guds, but we did deal Jovo at a young age for Bure, and I would make that trade over and over based off of the excitement Bure provided, albeit for a short time. Hopefully we can find some offense without paying too much of a price.
Lets not kind ourselves. Ryan is easily better than Steeger. And the fact that Versteeg is an RFA is the reason why you'll have to add the extra piece. I would do that trade, even if it would suck losing Howden.

Is Ryan that much better as to cost Howden and Ellerby? We really don't know. All Versteeg did was set career highs in the first real shot at top line minutes he got on a team with little offense. What would he have done if he had Perry and Getzlaf as linemates as opposed to Weiss and Flash?
trading howden and steeger isnt worth Ryan. I dont want to trade Howden unless its a great oppurtunity, I value him as one of our premier prospects. I would rather trade ellerby than Kuli too.
