just shows how mentally tough this team was. one of the bigger differences between this team and the teams in 2010 and 2011.

Yup. People kept complaining that the hockey wasn't exciting but when you steamroll and come back like they did over and over, it's usually just exciting for the fans of the team.

Still, after the postseason he had, a guy like Ward earned a killing, even though he was a UFA unlike King it's surprising that King only made 750 per when I thought he could earn another 500k on the contract.

Great to see him re-sign and for cheap! Maybe he'll be able to afford a new cellphone. The XM NHL station tried to call him 4 different time and he cut out every other worth. Frustrating and funny all at the same time.

Watching the videos posted for King, I have two things to say. It's so great to see Kings players crashing the net, scoring on rebounds and Trevor Lewis doesn't get enough love around here for what he did in the playoffs.

Perfectly exciting enough for me. I'll take another one just like it in 2013, please!

Love this signing, BTW!

The Kings played some of the best hockey I've ever seen - period. That's exciting.

Now that the Kings are in the spotlight maybe more non-partisan fans will see their impressive play as also being exciting.

What surprised me about King was his composure with the puck. He never seemed to panic or get rushed; he would always stay calm and make the right decision. Very impressive for a rookie playing deep in the SC playoffs.

Complete opposite to what Chicago did after they won the cup. Can't wait to see what this team does next year.

Talk about gutting a team apart. Fifteen players from Chicago's 2010 championship team are no longer with the team.

The fifteen players are:

Andrew Ladd
Kris Versteeg
Dustin Byfuglien
Brian Campbell
Antti Niemi
Troy Brouwer
Tomas Kopecky
Adam Burish
Ben Eager
Brent Sopel
John Madden
Cristobal Huet
Colin Fraser
Nick Boynton
Jordan Hendry

That's just an astonishing number of players to turnover from a Cup winning team. Only nine players from that 2010 team are still with the Blackhawks. They completely gutted their roster of all of the important role players who helped support the top guys (Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp).

The way Lombardi has managed the cap for the Kings really does have to be commended as one of the best jobs a GM has done managing a Cup winning team and bringing them all back.

Is King the last player from our team to be re-signed who played in the Playoffs?

Yup. Dean doing a great job getting these guys signed with very cap friendly deals. Good on the players as well for taking less money to keep a championship team intact. Shows how much these guys care about being Kings and trying to become a dynasty. First Stoll, then Fraser, then Quick, then Penner, and now King. So this is how Wings fans have felt for the last decade plus.

Lewis follows Hamuis from behind, knocking him down and jarring the puck loose. Stoll and King immediately pirouette around back in to the zone with the puck on Stoll's stick. Both players drive directly to the net, King to the right of Schneider, Stoll to the left. Schneider doesn't know what to decide until Stoll decides for him. Game, set, match.

Stoll doesn't even look at King but Schneider can't challenge him for the shot because King goes to the net. If he's not there, very likely Stoll doesn't score and then who knows what our story is with Schneider in net, both Sedins back and momentum going the other way...

I think Boston did a fairly good job as well, but even they didn't retain every single player. In the case of Kaberle, can't say I blame them.

King has turned out to be a sevicable 3/4th line forward with 2nd line upside. Happy to see there aren't anymore "King Sucks" posts around especially after the playoffs.

Great bargain signing, right around what he is worth so far. He should do really well this year. 34pts is my prediction.

Let's not portray it as if Chicago mismanaged their cap and didn't know what they were doing since it was the paperwork snafu that made their RFA players become UFA that was the main culprit for their problems.

They mucked up their cap structure trying to re-sign guys at higher numbers than they intended when faced with the risk of losing them for nothing. They were under the gun and had only a few days to decide to keep their team together or not so it's hard to fault them.
